Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Well that is my issue with this. Montembeault is what he is and the league and team know it. He's not part of the rebuild, he's a stop gap until Fowler arrives. Dobes became a pleasant surprise and likely will be a part of the team in the next few years. I see a Fowler/Dobes tandem.

So that begs the question, why are they so hell bent on playing Montembeault who gets fatigued? Why are they not at least splitting games with Dobes? Furthermore, why aren't they resting Montembeault? It's not like he'll get that for the upcoming tournament.

I'm questioning the management of this team during this run. When you're sitting in a wc spot your focus has to shift to staying there. They should play Dobes more than Montembeault for the next 2-3 weeks. Dobes will get the rest during the tournament. Furthermore, if you really want to see what you have in Dobes, play him more. Can he handle more games? If not let's find out now. It isn't like Montembeault is playing lights out hockey, he's tired.

Logically speaking from a now and later perspective, now you want to make the playoffs and playing Dobes more for at least the next 2-3 weeks makes sense. For later you want to know if Dobes can handle the workload, I mean the guy is big so he likely can.

There's no reason to be married to Montembeault, none, yet they continue to play him after repeated poor outings.

Honestly I have no idea. Montembeault hasn't been good enough to get that special privilege.

Dobes has been great but he will regress to the mean quicker if he plays more. He needs more dev time which is why i see primeau back next year.

Monty’s numbers may be average but he played behind a pitiful bunch for the first 25 games. Better team = better numbers.

Naw. He's been bad lately and has needed the team to bail him out many times. He puts them behind far too often.

You'd think, but check this out. We generally agree that December 15th is the start of our good run.

From the beginning of the season until December 15th : .900, 3.01GAA
From Dec 15th until now : .898%, 2.94GAA

Last year he was pretty good right? .903%, 3.14GAA
Year before? 0.901%, 3.42GAA

Let's keep going.

.891%
.890%
.894%

Career: .898%, 3.30GAA
With Florida : 0.892%, 3.20GAA

He's actually amazingly consistent, he's been howering around .900% and 3+ GAA for the past 3 years, increasing his save % by about a bit less than 1% in the process.

He is what he is, a back up.

That's correct. Yet he's given our crease far too often. I get that they didn't trust Primeau but this is just insane. Montembeault is not a starting goalie.

agreed but part of the process being played out by HuGo is to “sell” Diekembe as a starter to the marketplace, to maximize return on a deal, because Fowler will be on this team perhaps as early as some point next season

Teams aren't that stupid and have access to the same numbers we do. He was a waiver wire pick up and is a backup. Goalies rarely get traded for value also so you're using wishful thinking there. You'll be lucky to get a 3rd. Very lucky in fact.

Habs are not going with 2 kids starting next year with Dobes maybe getting 15-20 games of experience

They need a vet if Monty is not on the roster

See one Avalache + Georgiev

There are more “contenders” as part of that same list
