Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Never been anywhere that had a White Castle (unless we're talking about the movie "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle", which was actually filmed in Toronto.

Popeye's is the best of the fried chicken chains, and I don't think it's close IMO. Unless you count Jollibee, which I tried the one time I went to Toronto in the past 10 years (but then I may be biased).

I’m somewhat surprised that lower end burger chains have fought off the higher end ones like Shake Shack and Five Guys and are still doing really well. Any economists here to chime in with theories as to why? Their product is inferior but not that much cheaper.

A bit different up here as we don't have a bunch of them.

I'm guessing part of it is locations here . Eg. There are actually 5 (6 if you count the mall food court) mcdonalds on my drive to burger priest (25 minute drive).

Standard consumer theory doesn’t say much about that (it assumes people will shift to a “better” product, all things equal), but Behavioural Econ (a meld of Psych and Econ) might offer clues about brand name loyalty. Not my “area of practice”, a quick glance of the lit seems to indicate there are psychological factors that can override price and quality considerations (some kind of trust-commitment-loyalty chain, it seems.)

I also wonder about food science. Potato chips are engineered to turn us into addicts, and it might be the case with this stuff. Some people simply might prefer it because some flavour profile is optimized.

McDonald’s is consistently ok, if you want that taste, they deliver. My kids love it and honestly their double cheeseburger is delicious, especially for the price. Wendy’s has a niche spot, it’s not bad if that’s what you’re looking for. Jack in the Box is similar to Wendy’s but they get creative with their menu. BK I have no idea how they still exist.

Yeah Mickey D’s is the best of the lower end ones, by a lot. Those fries . . .
