Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

It works really well when they fuck it all up most of the time because we need to compete

Ask the Flyers how " We need playoff revenue is working "

You can be competitive and try all you want your reboot is coming when you make dumb mistakes

The business side gets more revenue when your a great team

Retaining Price or Gally because , " they are needed and our heart and soul players" doesnt add a nickel to the business of the Habs

Hugo is doing an A job so far , at some point the Habs will be a solid team , dont fuck it up forcing the rebuild
How is acquiring PLD for the Panthers pick "fucking it up"? A guy that just turned 25 and plays top line minutes with competent defense? If anything you can trade him at deadline for more. He doesn't have NMC.

You are quite myopic on your version of a rebuild that involves a constant revolving door of prospects and picks and does not afford a club the time to grow into their roles.

Even though we have Suzuki and Dach a guy like PLD in the mix is not a bad thing. Besides, PLD has played a lot of wing too. Doesn't need to be at center.

On his podcast last night, Marinaro and MA Perreault were discussing the relative merits of trading Hutson for PLD. We do have a surplus of blue line prospects and I think it's safe to assume that not all of them will be able to play.

This is like the Leafs handing Tavares 7 years and they still cant get past round 1 and they had Marner , Mathews , Nylander and Reilly in the funnel

The player is fine , the team isnt ready to win thats my issue

2/3 of shit team has no future , and we have no clue who develops or flops as kids for 2-3 years

Once team is a legit ready to compete and contend then pounce on a quality player

Build the frame first over the next few year and I dont see PLD going to Montreal , just an agent tactic

No f’ing way.
My son and I were discussing that last night while eating at Quizno's. We figured that one of Harris or Struble (maybe Mailloux but we need a big right dman) will go for Dubois along with the Florida 1st. I don't like small D but getting rid of Hutson would be a monumental blunder.

Plus your penchant for using one players career as any sort of fact for another is tiresome.

I can live with PLD and the probable $8.5M x 7 years he'll get from us. I'll need to swallow really, really hard, but I can live with it. We'll be paying a combined ~$16.5M for two #2 centers.

What I can't live with, however, is giving up important assets to acquire him.

We're not a PLD away from being contenders. Hell, we're not even a PLD away from being playoff contenders. We can't be giving up first round picks that might be in the early teens for a player, we just can't. This team is far, far away from being good.

If Pierre-Luc Dubois really wants to play here, he'll sign here as a free agent.

If what is said about PLD is true that he wants to play in Montreal , then we hold the cards.. I sign him for 5 years , at 5 years he isn't taking anyones spot coming up..

It will take 8 years , he isnt leaving 3 years on the table to get his nuts beat up by the media

the only reason I want him via a trade is that there is always a risk that he uses us to get a deal elsewhere. That said, if he really is dead set on only playing for us, I can wait another year

Thats why you say no , team has to be at least a decent playoff team to start with

Looking at it objectively, what do we need to be a contender?

#1 Center? Yup.
#2 Center? Nope, Nick Suzuki
Top line wingers? Caufield's the only one in the whole system.
Top-6 wingers? Caufield, hopefully Slafkovski, maybe Farrell. Maybe Dach if we keep him as a winger. Not sure we have one in the system beyond those four. Roy & Kidney might compete for it, but I think they're more 3rd liners if they make it to the NHL.
#3 Center? Possibly Dach, maybe Beck.

#1 d-man? Yup.
#2 d-man? Maybe Hutson?
#3 d-man? If Guhle can stay healthy, I think that's what he'll end up being. We'll see how Mailloux shapes out to be.
#4 d-man? I think one Mailloux/Harris/Xhekaj will eventually carve out a niche there.

#1 goalie? Yup.

So we don't have a #1 center, don't have a #1 d-man, don't have a #1 goalie, don't have much for top-line wingers, not sure if we have a real #2 d-man for the future.

If acquiring Dubois means hurrying things up, I would rather not. This rebuild is long from being over.

Practicalities are, if true, he is the first Quebecois in his prime willing to play for us in forever. I can't see Molson passing that up if he can swing it.

Our season ticket wait list is down to 2-4 yrs. Not good

Finally , a logical post on this

The whole team is made up of maybe , could be future players

The missing ingredients are the fucken star core nucleus that every contender has to work with or your going nowhere but the dreaded middle

PLD is a nice player when you got Sid , Geno , Letang or Kane JT , Seebrook , Keith etc..... in place

PLD is the complimentary piece to complete the puzzle , not when your 2/3 of team is not a puzzle yet

how many more years do you expect us to be shit?
