We must also remember that "being on pace" to score x number of goals is meaningless unless or until you actually score them. So far in his brief career, Cole has shown a lot of promise but he hasn't played a full season. You can pay him fairly without giving up the farm.

The above mentioned are stars and will be top 10-15 point producers for years to come

Nothing against Cole but he will never be as good as them

He maybe a 40-50 goal scorer but will be limited to being a one trick pony with no size and no other elements to his game

Tell his agent to pound salt if he wants 8+
 
That's a hell of a trick though. 50 goals?

You post with such certainty over young men who could, and have, prove you wrong.

pretty much what they said about MSL (Art Ross, Hart, Stanley Cup, Lady Byng)... I am not saying Cole will be as good as MSL, but having him coach Cole sure points in that direction as we are already seeing the benefits ..

Your value is determined by how easy is it is to replace you. Nick may be the better player but he’s also easier to replace. There are very few players who can score goals like Caufield.
 
I don't think Cole's a great player beyond scoring goals, but I'd be shocked if he isn't a consistent 40-45+ goal scorer.

I wish he was bigger and I wish he did more to impact the game, but 40 goal scorers don't grow on tress, despite the large increase in scoring throughout the NHL. You gotta keep him.

Nick is harder to replace and Cole has to prove he can score goals over more several seasons

Exactly , one trick pony but you need goals

Cant put him in the Hughes , Stuzle , etc ....category
 
Nick is easier to replace (in that there's more similar players at or above his level than Cole) but plays a more important position/role (in that you're more screwed if you don't find a replacement).
