Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

He signed at 28.. the contract is to 34. Based on Gally fitness level I thought he be good until 32 - 33.. maybe the full length of the contract.. $6,500,000 cap hit for a guy that scores 30 goals with his leadership qualities was fair for me.. no one would of guess that his career would be over due to different hand injuries..
His career was a quick swoop down the mountain , easy bet to take on that contract

I thought he would start breaking down by 30-31, not by 27.
Late 20s, early 30s for players who aren't on their way to the HHOF, or at the very least trying to make a case.

It's like clockwork and the same people can't understand why it keeps happening.

Sure, you have the odd player like Brad Marchand & Joe Pavelski that are the exceptions, but the vast majority of forwards abide by this.

Defensemen aren't as bad because even if a d-man's offensive production erodes, if they're able to be sound defensively, they might be overpaid but still useful. See Ryan McDonagh.

Apparently he’s been good in practices, but I wouldn’t know. Also apparently Harris hasn’t been great so far.

Does the team has the balls to cut Lindstrom? I doubt it.

Norlinder's on the team only if there are injuries.

Right now, if the team's healthy, he's not in the lineup on the left side before Matheson, Guhle, Xhekaj or Harris. Maybe Harris ends up playing on the right side, but even then, that would make Norlinder 4th on the depth chart.

Like, there are still going to be more cuts.

We have 30 people on the roster as we speak.

Price is going on LTIR immediately, Dvorak is going on IR once the season starts, maybe Wideman too. We still have 4 players to cut (5 if Wideman's coming back soon).

It's going to be four of the following:

Ylonen, Heinemen, Norlinder, Lindstrom, Primeau, Pezzetta, Slafkovsky, Xhekaj, Barron.

My bet?

Ylonen, Norlinder, Primeau, Barron.

I think your bet is fair, although my bet would switch Ylonen with Heinemen. But I’d also switch Norlinder with Lindstrom even if I don’t think it would happen.

There is no such thing about beating a vet with a contract if you’re waiver exempt. Contracts matters more than meritocracy.

Difference is Pavelski isnt signing 8 year deals at 29 years of age

Correct , history has been proven for decades teams will get burnt 9/10 times

Those contracts should be 4-5 years tops except Gally who should of been shipped to Davos

I'm not a fan of Ylonen, so if he goes on waivers & gets picked up, I won't cry about it. I rather have Lindstrom in the press box than Norlinder, not to mention they play different sides. Lindstrom making the team doesn't really impact Norlinder, assuming this team wants players to be on their natural side.

You're right that contracts matter more than meritocracy. If it was about true meritocracy, Joel Armia doesn't make this team and would be on waivers to be sent to Laval. However, if we have a guy on a cheap NHL contract and a young player beats him out, meritocracy would usually win out.

Honestly I don’t quite understand why we just don’t send Armia to Laval. Are we afraid to hurt his feelings? Fuck him.
Not a fan of Ylonen either but Heineman didn’t have a good camp and could use more games in Laval.

Norlinder is just to reward him for being the best surprise of the camp, plus we could really use him on the PP.
