Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

I support everyone, that's not the point. Just don't see the relationship with hockey and hence why I asked about other themed nights.
That is what they all say when they get called on it.. We are in the year 2023 , the fact is there are gay hockey players that stay quiet because they are scared to come out,,, it has nothing to do with skin colour as we have all kind of different ethnic players in the NHL. (.racism is another topic.). Gay marriage was legalized in Canada in 2005.. not that long ago.. a buddy of mine who I played hockey with , tough as nails player, blew him self away because he was gay and couldn't take it anymore.. my uncle in 1977 overdosed because he was beat up for being gay.. so this personal for me.,. if you don't approve of it, fine, just don't go or watch it!

But they do have Asian, Hispanic Heritage Nights...etc... they even have Jewish Heritage Night, at least some NBA teams have done so.
It is kinda funny how ppl only complain about pride night. Here is what redneck Alberta has for Oilers the rest of the season

Maybe you can tell me though how a pride night at the rink helps a gay NHL player come out? None have come out as a result as far as I can tell. It isn't like Ovechkin will come out and admit his inner truth because McNpersonality uses rainbow tape. It's like the land acknowledgements do shit for actual reconciliation but allows the white man to self flaggellate, and feel better about himself. Gay pride night does little if anything for gay rights but makes a few straight CIS males who deep down don't like "those guys" feel less guilty in an innocuous way about how they really feel.

Want to do something real, have the team build and maintain a shelter for gay/lesbian teens who left home as a result of a bad parental reaction, pay and maintain an alternate school for LGBTQIAP+++++ teens who feel unsafe at school. Pay for transition surgery for needy trans individuals.

Any of the above will do more than using pride tape for 15 minutes a year

I am all for building shelters.. etc.. the question you need to ask yourself is why does pride night at a NHL game bother you so much?

The game on March 13th against Ovechkin (which I will be attending) should have been designated as Ukrainian Night. As it is I'm expecting Edmonton's sizeable Ukrainian ex-pat community to be out in force to tell Putin's BFF exactly what they think of him.

Whatever they did you would dismiss it as virtue signaling. You're one of those fans who doesn't care who has to suffer so long as you have a game to watch on a Saturday night and aren't inconvenienced.

Who gives a fuck?

The whole point of it is inclusion. It doesn't matter if another player decides to come out with it. The whole fucking point is acknowledging people, including gay people, are hockey fans and showing appreciation for it.

Thanking some of your clientele is now what? Signaling?

I'm curious whether people turn down clientele because they're gay because that's what you're basically saying with your FAQing questions.

This is the same shit we saw in Edmonton when the football team changed its name from Eskimos to Elks. The usual inbred rig pigs complained and said that the team should tell its "woke" corporate sponsors to fuck off while conveniently ignoring the fact that the $30 they spend once or twice a season for a ticket to cheer for the Roughriders when they come to town doesn't keep the lights on. Then they say that the team should get other "un-woke" sponsors and to that I tell them that sponsorships with companies like Telus, Molson, Tim Horton's and Purolator are worth slightly more to the team than Freedumb Klownvoy "patriots" like Jethro's Vape and Edibles Shop or the Tramp Stamps R Us Tattoo Parlor.

Every time I see or hear someone whine about "Why Pride Night?" I see a person who isn't merely afraid of gays, they're really just afraid to be gay.

That’s because you look at it through the eyes of a straight white person. Someone like myself that has had a life of privilege. Small gestures can go a long way for marginalized communities.

I think you are missing his point though. These are just marketing ploys, does Molson give 10% of ticket sales to charities for that night? I mean, show us what they are doing aside from a themed night and trying to sell tickets. Market that if they are.

No I think you’re missing the point. I don’t have to show you anything. You have your belief I have mine.

View: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/winnipeg-jets-fan-explains-why-pride-nights-matter-really-important-to-grow-the-game/ you are missing the point, the whole idea of "Pride Night" is to show support for the LGBTO community, to let them know that as a team we support them.. Same goes for Indigenous community.. etc etc.. Where I live they painted ONE CROSSWALK with rainbow colours.. a few said that they are tired of it being shoved in their faces.. read that again, One sidewalk out of 1000 and it's deemed to be shoved in their faces .. don't be that guy..

A nice attempt to dodge.

I didn't even know they had them until Wehave started ranting about Russian fascist homophobes who for genuine beliefs and wanting them kicked out of the league (because Keith Olbermann told him to take that position).
