I just keep thinking that watching Laine now must be like watching Phil Esposito in his final year (damn slow). I think he's close to being done.

Caufield , Slaf, Laine, Dach, Demidov, Newhook and Roy / Heinneman as fillers are your top six wingers next season. Why so many? Because we already know Laine and Dach are going to miss time due to injury.

Laine was free but HUGO needs to the take L on Dach at some point and try to recover some assets.

PLD is so frustrating. Has shown flashes but can't stay healthy. Needs to move to the wing on the third line to provide more depth scoring.

Habs are great at finding second line centres.

That needs to be the priority this summer. Actually get 2. Or at least 1.5.
Sign or trade for a 60 point center and then also try to get a up and coming centre (like they did with newhook and dach). That combined with Hage has me happy.

Demidov, a legit centre, Reinbacher additions for next year. Subtract Savard and Dvorak.

True. Which is why I want a mixed approach. Spend the assets or money to get a number 2 guy that will likely fall to a number 3 over the course of the contract. Then have some additional options for a future number 2.

I have hopes that Hage might be our future #2. But we would need that #2 that falls to #3. Bennett would fit that bill but I doubt he signs here, and wouldn't break the bank for him but I'd be comfortable offering between 6-7 over a 5-6 years contract. Well comfortable, not really, there is definitely some risks, but he'd be a good fit.

Almost no chance. HuGo have demonstrated that they value narratives like the one Hage has, assuming of course, that you have the talent, which he does. They are the antithesis of MB: “If you want loyalty, get a dog.”
