It's why dumping money into better drafting is so important but teams go cheap with it.

yeah they did it Penguin style who basically had no prospects for years because they were always traded way, but at least they have a few cups to show for it, Leafs did it and didn't get to 3rd round

Exactly and the players they acquired were not the missing piece to anything

They were never built to win a cup , maybe a few extra rounds if the core 4 produced to expectations but no more
