Jack Roslovic to the Canes

That AAV was higher than I expected, but they did go only 1 year.

Unless he is going to have a break out year in our top 6, expect to be dazzled by his speed and size but frustrated as hell by his inability to apply those to anything better than 40-45 points. He was noticeable out there in the playoffs for the Rangers but only managed to score 2 goals.

Meh ... defensively responsible, smart, good wheels, good system guy but not a play drive or a point producer either at center or on the wing. It's a reasonable deal, as he's coming off of a $4 million contract and $2.8 mil is a lot more in line with what he actually does. Basically a middle six support guy who can slot up if needed and play all three forward positions. Maybe most importantly he's a right hander who can play center. Fine. I know the Canes have sniffed around Roslovic in the past and he's played in their division his whole career, so they know what they're getting here.

I mean, we're talking about a guy we've all seen play dozens of times. You guys know exactly what Roslovic is ... and isn't.

So, basically a right shot Martinook— fast, defensively responsible, can play up and down the line up who can chip in, but scoring isn’t why he’s here kind of guy.

He's better than Martinook, which is why his actual production frustrates people. Again, you guys JUST watched Roslovic play on the Rangers first line in the series that sent Carolina home.

I've read/heard a few statements about how Roslovic being a right handed will help us in terms of options for faceoffs. Well...Roslovic is right handed, that is true, but he has sucked at faceoffs his entire career:

We will only look at seasons where he took over 100 faceoffs:

2018-19 209 Faceoffs 43.5%
2019-20 148 Faceoffs 47.3%
2020-21 593 Faceoffs 39.1%!
2021-22 855 Faceoffs 43.5%
2022-23 889 Faceoffs 45.0%
2023-24 126 Faceoffs 42.9%

His career Win% is only 43.2%

Seth Jarvis took 352 faceoffs last season and won 44.6% of them. I'm not relishing another season of extreme minuses at the faceoff dot by our right handers when the situation calls for them to take a draw.

Yikes! He needs to enroll in the RBA faceoff school real soon. Probably and old/new tricks deal by now, but HCRBA won't put up with sucky faceoff numbers for long.
