Per Seravalli, 8 years, $63.2 million, $7.9 million. But…

The cap hit will be $7.5 million. There is a deferred payment due on July 1, 2032, the day after the contract expires. It’s believed to be the first meaningful deferred compensation contract in the league. The article notes that Slavin’s new contract also includes a deferred payment but not enough to move the cap hit. The Central Registry and the PA have signed off on the deal.

Leave it to us to be the first to introduce deferred compensation as a cap control method.

Be happy we have smart guys running the front office and players willing to defer a payment until after their contracts end. The Canes barely scratched the surface on this concept with Slavin and Jarvis. It will be interesting to see which team and player try to take this to the next level.

Excellent contract (with or without the deferred compensation). Jarvy has been a player that has definitely overdelivered and this contract recognizes that fact.

Shane Doan also had this

Note that he has a 20-team no trade clause for the last four years of the deal.
Which is absolutely the norm for a new contract for a top line forward. Everything about this Jarvis contract is within expected norms except for the deferred bonus and I'm honestly surprised more teams aren't doing that kind of thing. For all of Carolina's supposed "tinkering" and "weirdness" in the front office, that deal was straight vanilla.

Any chance Nikishkin or Morrow make your team

Your D is thin after departures and decimated after Burns and Orlov leave next year
