And Gignac.AHL is full of vets who can produce in the A but are nothing more than Hudon 13th forwards on most teams

He’s not an NHL'er, no matter how many meaningless points he puts up in the AHL. He's trash (by NHL standards). For sure. If Gignac had let’s say 20 points in 43 games instead of 42 ( a career year for him), he probably doesn't get called up. He probably wasn't in the plans to be called up at all at the begininng of the season.
Makes all the difference in the world for the player though, that was the point. He’s not an NHL'er, no matter how many meaningless points he puts up in the AHL. He's trash (by NHL standards).
Gignac will be back in the AHL for good soon enough, likely never to be seen in the NHL ever again, even if the league expands to 50 teams.Makes all the difference in the world for the player though, that was the point.
Over 600 + roster spots, there will always be at least a couple dozen spots taken by fringe players. Look at McCarron and Pezzetta.Gignac will be back in the AHL for good soon enough, likely never to be seen in the NHL ever again, even if the league expands to 50 teams.
Both are better, and more importantly bigger, than him. Gignac will never be seen again in the NHL after he’s inevitably sent down. He’s unproductive and small, which is a terrible combination for a professional hockey player.Over 600 + roster spots, there will always be at least a couple dozen spots taken by fringe players. Gignac is 26. It’s not gonna happen for him.well shit
that explains everything
yupAnd Gignac.
Thats the thing , will never get a shot to produce in the NHL because he will get limited bottom 6 minutesBoth are better, and more importantly bigger, than him. Ok first 3-drafts: 2013-2015 were 10-12OA picks all busted
Yep, he put together a good AHL season and got his chance. That deserves some kudos. Even if ends up with less than 50 NHL games for his career, its still more than almost anyone else that has ever played hockey.I don't think anyone was ever making the argument that Gignac was an NHLer, but for whatever reason wasn't getting an opportunity.
Yeah, he's an AHLer and yeah, he's only on the team because of injuries/suspensions/trades opening up roster spots for one of the worst teams in the league. This is normal.
Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose are filled with players who aren't really NHLers. Once they start turning the corner, >75% of the players on those rosters aren't going to be in the NHL anymore.
The older brother of a friend of mine won an AHL scoring title back in the 80's. His NHL "career" lasted 7 games.Which probably tells you what being a scoring leader in the AHL is worth. Not much.
Ross Yates? The older brother of a friend of mine won an AHL scoring title back in the 80's. His NHL "career" lasted 7 games.
The very same. He scouts for the Red Wings now.Ross Yates?
