New Canadian Politics Thread

it's almost inconceivable that someone could be "smart" enough to be in an advanced biotechnology program, yet be this ignorant and dumb. Assuming she came here from another country, I agree - expel and deport.

Happens more often than you think. I mean, look at Ben Carson. Dude is legitimately a world-class neurosurgeon, and yet on pretty much any other topic is a tinfoil-pants-on-head dumbass raving lunatic.

Or someone like Elon Musk. Legitimately a genius at a few very specific things to the point where he became the world’s richest man, while still being a credulous moron in general.

Anyway, as for this person—yeah, absolutely boot her out.

I've learned that some people can"Retain" info very well and yet be very dumb. I had trouble in my life retaining info, so my studies are limited to a very regular Bachelors degree that took a long time to compete.
I know a teacher with a Masters that's such a moron.

Immigrants statistically are getting fed-up and leaving. The system they have set-up is causing frustration for everyone.
If you're an electrician from overseas, I get it. Different systems. But most other things it doesn't matter. We need to stop acting like we are so advanced in Canada. we are in the stone ages.
It isn't about technological advancement and it never was. It's about protecting jobs. For decades, going back to the Mulroney era, the focus of immigration wasn't to get highly skilled people like doctors and engineers, it was to get cab drivers, security guards, fruit pickers, and 7-11 clerks; people who would take the menial jobs that Canadians didn't want. The last thing the government wanted was for graduates of Canadian medical schools or engineering programs to get beat out for a job by an immigrant. So they focused their efforts on attracting people from the lowest socio-economic classes they could find. Many people in India are educated and fluent in English. But that's not who the Canadian government targeted. They targeted illiterate dirt farmers from the Punjab who couldn't speak a word of English (and even after decades living in Canada, still can't) because they served a purpose without posing any threat to the high end of the job market.

She has the right to freely express her opinions, even if they are unpopular. Actually, especially if they're unpopular because free speech laws exist to protect a person's right to holding unpopular opinions. You don't need laws to protect popular speech.

But like I told the anti-vaxxers who were pissed off that they were denied access to nice things during the pandemic because they refused to get the jab, your freedom to choose (or, in this case, speak) does not give you freedom from consequences. But those consequences should not include deportation. You either have free speech or you don't. Having it means occasionally having to put up with cunts like her.

The school has a right to expel her though based on her views. The deporting thing is obviously tricky and won't happen (And yes, she might well have grown-up in the glorious Schwa
She's free to bump her gums but not free from the consequences of what comes out of her mouth. But you can't deport people simply because you don't like what they say. That's a slippery slope we don't want to go near, especially with the prospect of a potential Conservative government in the near future.

Freedom of speech doesn't cover inciting violence or promoting genocide. Her statements probably aren't direct enough to ever do anything about it, but it's a bit more of a grey area than you're making it out to be I think and certainly well beyond just "not liking what she says".

I'm curious to see what happens to this woman, not from the government, but from regular people who know her or who see her at school or around town. She just made herself unemployable and I'll bet she's had to take down all of her social media but over and above that, how can she even show her face anywhere now?

She' s paying a huge price even if nothing happens to her in terms of being thrown out of school, you are right.

I can’t speak to what our immigration policies were in 1984, but with respect to the present - This is all completely incorrect.

Business owners are not on the same page as our government. That's a big issue.
Also, our arrogance in thinking you NEED to have work experience in Canada because we are above all is hilarious. Just this weekend, I had a really charming candidate from England get turned down because she was an EA for 5 years in a construction company in England, but it wasn't in Canada. I'm sure EAs do different work in LONDON and won't be able to understand how to send Emails and make schedules... I don't get saying that stuff about people who worked in major European cities. The frustrating part is if they just spent 5 minutes chatting with her they would have loved her.

She certainly will have that smug smile wiped off her face by someone unless she goes into hiding. But given the attitude I saw from her in that video, this is not a woman who fades into the background. She's mouthy and she won't be able to help herself. She might be able to get by in Oshawa where you can count the number of Jews on the fingers of one hand, but she'd better be careful if she plans to take the GO Train into downtown Toronto. Someone will recognize her and then she'll be in a world of shit.
