If they send down Myers, Benning and a forward like Holmberg they can activate Dewar, Krok and Hakanpaa and have almost $1 mill in cap space with a 23 man roster.

That's a lot of rationalizing.

Lilly has been great at times. This coaching change was our chance to give him some confidence and play him properly to see how he fares. Sitting him for all but 1 game, not seeing shit under the new coach, and trading him for a pure garbage package, is insanely stupid. Absolutely insanely stupid when we kept Benoit, Timmins, and Myers over him, and added Benning too.

We pissed away two easy top 4 dmen that we drafted and developed, and we're regretting one and will regret this shortly too.

It's pretty clear now, if it wasn't before, that Tre is a fucking moron. Any move he makes that works out is pure luck.
 
I dunno.

Lilly was unplayable down the homestretch and through the playoffs last year. He did nothing to show he was playable in preseason. He was terrible in his one game played in season. He makes $3m. He's 25yrs old. Not actually young. He's UFA after next season even if he does suddenly break out.

and a 3rd+ isn't nothing.

He does have enough talent to make this deal look bad but I'm not too worried about it tbh.
 
This unplayable thing is silly. Even if his precious xg wasn't up to snuff, he was never unplayable. We can't even properly evaluate him when he's being pulled in and out of the lineup like a yoyo for years. He's a young guy, and kids need to be given confidence to play knowing they won't be yanked out of the lineup as soon as they falter. He had none of that with Keefe, other than that one stretch where he had no choice but to play Sandin and Lilly due to injuries, and they were both fantastic.

Other than that, he's never gotten a consistent sniff of playing time. Yet Reaves and Kampf and Benoit and Timmins get to play no matter what.

He's got two full years at $3M left, and we didn't even bother to explore it and see his game under a new coach.

The 3rd is as close to nothing as you can get. Terrible return that should've caused us to keep him rather than give him away like that.

Maybe he never gets great, but first, we will have played a key part in ruining him, and second, we won't be the ones to enjoy it if he does despite having developed him for 7 years. Completely brainless asset management, and fireworthy when it is done with your own first round picks.
 
It did when he was 20, 21, 22…the years we were jerking him around while jamming guys like Ceci, Barrie, and other crap into the lineup.
