OT: American Politics

Funny enough, I grew up regularly attending a fairly hardcore evangelical church.

And while a married man not wanting to be alone one-on-one with a woman who wasn’t his wife probably wouldn’t have been considered that weird, referring to his wife as “mother” would have put him in the top 1% of weirdos in our congregation.
It’s common here except they usually keep it within the family a friends, not public. That part is hella weird

If he loses the election he can technically step down making Pence president who can pardon Trump for federal issues. I’ve already read something on that possible scenario and it is legal. It would hold up in court. Again, that’s for federal.
Well the legality of Nixon's pardon was never really tested.. It's possible it would hold up possible it wouldn't have.. historically pardons are of far more limited scope then the one that Ford issued Nixon...

Wouldn’t Trump just try and pardon himself, rather than stepping down and putting himself in a position where he has to rely on Pence doing it for him?

Assuming that the idea that a President can’t pardon himself is just yet another one of those unwritten conventions/traditions that Trump would have no problem ignoring.
Nixon would have done so if it was sure it wouldn’t be challenged.

And relating to that pardon I think it was a good thing for the country in the short term and a terrible thing in the long term. It set up the President as being above the law...
