I don't know that $50k would cover living expenses and tuition at most Canadian grad schools either, depending on the program.
Law tuition is over $20k / year now most places.

I want to know where we went wrong on stuff like this.
This is just a great microcosm. Trumpers are screaming about fake data, because their news sources tell them the data is fake.
A few google searches and clicks, and all of a sudden there is a logical and coherent explanation that undermines that narrative. But the narrative still takes hold and the 'do your own research' folks do not actually do their own research.
How do we get the FlyGuys of the world to a point where they can figure this out themselves? And/or will listen when other people point it out?

If kiddo goes away for uni and is enrolled in a standard non-professional program, the realistic annual cost (includes a bit of a buffer) in Canada is 25k to 30k. That includes transportation costs and incidentals. You might be able to whittle it down to 22K. Dwelling costs in Toronto, VCR, and Victoria are added burdens.
I expect that to increase sharply in the coming years… 35k to 40k within 5 years or less.

is there seriously not one issue you can be on the right side of? It really is amazing. Yes these drugs are relatively new and need to be studied for sure, but there's no question they're effective in helping millions of people lose weight. This will lead to significant reduction in future health care costs over time. Everything I've seen so far suggests that the benefits outweigh the negatives.
The focus should be on figuring out the best way to get people off these drugs once the weight's been lost, and not gain it all back.

I may actually be with FlyGuy on the weight loss drugs, but I withhold any final judgment until I can see some peer reviewed research about their efficacy and side effects

They're effective in inhibiting gut serotonin production and increasing suicidal ideation. Recent studies have shown they decrease heart muscle as well.
You have not read about and listened to as many things as I have about these drugs.
The drug is intended to be a lifetime medication and prescribed as much. They're trying to start KIDS on these for their ENTIRE LIFE. It's demonic.
You know what is healthy way to lose weight? Getting poison out of our foods like RFK is working to do.
But as usual society is read to just throw a medication with negative consequences rather than just address the actual thing causing the issue. And the taxpayer is going to subsidize it? F that.

It is unlikely as long as Vlad is alive that it will be politically difficult/infeasible to continue kicking Vlod in the balls.

I've seen a lot of research and discussion on this issue. Every single drug has side effects. But the data I've seen so far is pretty clear, the benefits far outweigh the negatives as far as reducing obesity, which is already leading to significant positive health outcomes in the general population. We'll see what happens over time, and definitely should continue to monitor the results.
I should add there are people out there who are normal sized but still take them to try and get super-thin. That is abusing their original purpose, but that's not the drugs' fault.
Also, nobody "has to" do anything for their whole life, including taking an obesity pill when they're no longer obese. If they start gaining it back, again, that's not the drugs' fault. They are simply a tool in the tool box, and quite possibly the most effective obesity tool that has ever been invented.
