OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Psychologically speaking, I get treating it like a cold or the flu but that ain't it.

With that said, these were severe cases and you can't really extrapolate it to the general population. But the virus certainly has some unique properties. The decrease in severity has sorta plateaued and people are catching this shit on average once every ~2 years which is way more often than the flu (it would be tough to expect a long life even catching the flu that often). Transmission isn't really slowing and immunity is very shortlived so it's hard to say if this thing ever slows down!

What a fun human experiment this is!

In Ontario, the province’s wastewater signal is showing an uptick in COVID activity, with current levels similar to those reported in February during the winter respiratory virus season. As of July 25, the most recent data available from Public Health Ontario, the GTA and eastern Ontario are seeing the highest COVID levels. National data also reveals evidence of a fresh COVID wave.

“The trends have been going up over the last couple of months; we have about 50 per cent more cases circulating now than in May,” said Sarah Otto, a professor at the University of British Columbia and researcher with Canada’s Coronavirus Rapid Response Network, known as CoVaRR-Net.

“That’s unusual for a respiratory disease to go up and up and up during the summer months.”

Gay men who fuck are like a billion times more likely to catch it. There is zero evidence that it's very transmissive beyond that method (yet). If you look at the demographics of the confirmed cases it's like 99% 18+ men.
