OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Maybe they are afraid of these businesses being further hit if there was full transparency? Like restaurants and bars are already struggling - full disclosure would likely be the final nail for a lot of establishments.

Doesn't make it anything other than super irresponsible though on behalf of public health. People have the right to know where the cases are coming from.

The data collection isn’t that rigorous... ie If I test + for Covid in two weeks, am I supposed to call every restaurant, grocery store, takeout place I’ve frequented for the past month?

Apple implemented it in their latest update here in the States. I’m assuming they did it elsewhere as well.

I'm curious if Twitler has an issue with Tik Tok being a Chinese product an is banning downloading it in the USA. What about the girls phone/iPhone, they are all manufactured in China. Tracking software/code can easily be implemented by a foreign source. 🤔

Apple is pretty meticulous about their gear though. They're hands on and anal about the entire manufacturing chain. If Foxcom or another supplier was sneaking shit it on the behalf of the Chinese government 1) Apple's engineers wouldn't notice it eventually 2) Apple wouldn't immediately shut down production at those facilities and order top to bottom audits of their entire manufacturing chain 3) the fallout would lead to a double digit decrease in the tech manufacturing sector in China as a ton of companies would look for the exit.

China has to toe the line to a degree. They can be an orwellian authoritarian hellscape to their own people, but they have to treat these western companies with some measure of respect or they're out.

Ya I'm pretty sure if you test positive and then download the app to enter your code its useless right? The app uses Bluetooth to send anonymous codes back and forth between other peoples phones who are near you and keep an (anonymous) record of people you've come into contact with. It doesn't actually track your location. It can't retroactively figure out who you have come into contact with.

Or at least that's my understanding after looking at it for 30 seconds.

Its also at only 500k+ downloads on the google store. Assuming Apple is about the same, you have to hope that if you do have contact, it's with someone who is in the 1/35 who have downloaded it.

They should be pushing this harder.

Yeah, the app records contacts, so just downloading and entering the code won't help.

1M+ downloads or so isn't bad, but as you mention, that's still a pretty tiny segment of the population. And I still haven't fully figured out how the whole "restaurants take your name and number" system works - it really feels like they should be on the same app/system too. But without looking like a SE Asian country, it's hard to mandate everyone downloading an app and forcing people to walk around with their bluetooth connections on.

I've gone to a restaurant about 5x in the last 3 months (all patio experiences). Going again tonight...and tomorrow afternoon.

Not about being spoiled (I cook 95% of the time) ....simply put, restaurants are one of the few venues where I can see my friends.

I've been super impressed by the protocol...lots of space between tables, constant wiping down, digital menus, etc

It's all relative I suppose...on this board, this probably puts me in the reckless category, but in my social group, I'm on on the cautious side.

ya i am the same..... bunch of friends own restaurants so ive gone there

not looking forward to the cold weather forcing everything indoors though

also done a movie - was awesome as there were 8 ppl in the theatre

on the actually dangerous side i started playing hockey again ( i am the fattest i have ever been)

most places here you have to sign in so if anybody is found to have covid the day you were there you can be contacted
