OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Yeah, the app records contacts, so just downloading and entering the code won't help.

1M+ downloads or so isn't bad, but as you mention, that's still a pretty tiny segment of the population. And I still haven't fully figured out how the whole "restaurants take your name and number" system works - it really feels like they should be on the same app/system too. But without looking like a SE Asian country, it's hard to mandate everyone downloading an app and forcing people to walk around with their bluetooth connections on.

It feels like theatre tbh. You just give a name and number (no verification) and then what? if one person at restaurant X( out of thousands over a span of a month) goes on to test positive, will they be contacting every restaurant they frequented?

Its also at only 500k+ downloads on the google store. Assuming Apple is about the same, you have to hope that if you do have contact, it's with someone who is in the 1/35 who have downloaded it.

They should be pushing this harder.

but the goverment will spy on me!!!!!!

that was the cry when alberta had an app (also the app really fucking sucked and would turn off all the time)

Heard it here too. All while they were browsing Instagram and Facebook with absolutely no issues or concerns at all.

oh ya - complaining about it on facebook was my favourite

side note - anybody else find out your family are complete pieces of shit / morons because of covid?

i also find it frustrating that people say well only X amount of people died so why are we going all this

ummmm only X amount of people died BECAUSE we are dong this

people are really stupid

I'm getting a lot of "it seems less deadly now" comments. As if that gives them an excuse to hold house parties and huge get-togethers. So much misinformation out there and people choose to believe what they want to believe, on both ends of the spectrum.

Well isnt it appearing to go that way because of masksand social distancing? The viral load is lower due to less exposure?

If its less deadly that's because as society we have choosen to follow guidlines and that has lowered the risk.... the disease has not become less risky

Exactly. Lots of factors for the death rate decreasing: younger people getting it, testing going up (hundreds of thousands of cases were unaccounted for back in March/April), masks have decreased viral load, treatment has improved since the beginning, etc. But the virus itself has not mutated enough to make it less deadly. It's still a huge threat, especially to the elderly population, who in my circles are not taking it very seriously. Not saying stop your life, but respect the virus. It's not there to be your friend.

I wouldn't compare it to the spring peak. We're testing about 4-5 times more people per day these days. The spring numbers were likely far higher.

But the trend is ugly. Exponential growth after the slow crawl down to double digits.

Not only are we not locking down, a lot of people are treating things like we're back to normal with slight changes to their normal way of life. I just got a reschedule request email from a client because she and her husband are too busy for the session right now because her husband (high school teacher) is back coaching rugby 3x a week after school.

How in the fuck are we allowing high school sports right now?
