OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Come on down then. The misconception about LA is everyone is outside in those months, but it's not like that. It gets cool and uncomfortable during winter months here too, and mostly everything is indoors. So there's no snow obviously, but nobody is at the beach either.

The thing that is really tugging at me now is that it's getting darker a little quicker outside (last week it was fucking gray nonstop because of the fires, but that's a whole other thing). When the clocks change and it turns dark at like 5 pm, this thing is going to take on another level of depression-making. Up till now, it was happening during the light and warmer months. This shit during the winter months? Fuck me.

It is hard all around. I mean, I work from home, so I'm here all day. And nothing is open, so I can't really go anywhere. So it's just a pain to sit around and do nothing all day. I need to get out and do something, and it's not like you can even get any meaningful interaction when the barista you talk to has a mask on and is standing behind a plastic shield. So without anything to do, it's just not healthy to be doing nothing.

The real pain though is that I'm not going to head out to the mall or go to a restaurant, but others are, and that's keeping this thing alive. So I really don't know what the answer is, either personally or for society. I can't stay trapped inside forever, but we need to get past this.

Unlike South Florida where the winter months are so bloody beautiful that nobody stays inside.

You could always read zeke arguing with pretty much everyone.

Well except Preston who's smitten by him apparently. We're still waiting to see how Jonas reacts to this development.

Tune in next time.

tell me about it. I get 'covid burnout" a few days every month. I'd kill to be in LA and not be trapped indoors from November to March.
Your and LOF’s covid blues have me feeling pretty grateful for my hali setup...

In the office five days a week (there are seven of us total in two different offices), at the climbing gym at least once/week, and climbing outdoors on weekends. markets are open again on weekends, its now easier than ever to order local produce (and much more) online. Very much settled into our current version of ‘pandemic normal’.

Schools have been open since the beginning of the month and very few new cases, touch wood. Our little bubble is holding up nicely so far

Perfectly stated. It's like the max you can do while being safe is pretty close to nothing. If you want to do more, you're risking it. And the bare minimum of contact like the barista example, is actually nothing. It totally sucks. If work wasn't keeping me busy (which I'm grateful for, though it is wearing me the fuck out), I would be going completely nuts. Or maybe I'd be relaxed and taking in some fresh air and free time. Who the fuck knows.

I feel pretty guilty honestly. I had one of my best summers ever. I have a pandemic personality.

A friend of mine shared a story that kind of shocked me into a reality check.
His toddler was sick so he had him tested and at the same time both parents got tested as well. The results came back and the only one who tested positive was my buddy. He had no symptoms and has no clue how this super contagious thing got to him but not his family. He said he was being super cautious- never left his house. Thinks maybe Uber eats delivery but nothing confirmed.
Just crazy.

In the core? I heard banks aren’t back until 2021. My office is closed until January at least.

My company is offering us staggered options for a potential return. 1-2 days a week or 1 week out of the month.

Even with cases relatively low Im still not keen on going back into the heart of downtown so Im pushing back to keep working from home as long as I can

My productivity is up and my quality of life is better with 2 hours of commute off my plate. Its a no brainer as far as im concerned but they dont see it that way so far

Yes sir. Leadership at my org is a bit stuck in the dark ages, and this whole situation has been pretty revealing for more reasons than just forcing us back into the office. I've just started shopping around, but can't imagine the job market is great.

Ya girlfriend works for a bank. She's been told January 2021 at the earliest but pretty much guaranteed to go well past that. She's also been told two minimum three days a week from home (if she wants) even when COVID is done, but was trending in that direction anyway. COVID has just accelerated it.

The banks are out til early 21 at the earliest for most.... a few have been going in where i work but not in my department. Ill hopefully never be full time office again.

Banks are Going to coordinate return to work with ttc.

A lot of friends in the core are lonely deep down and soulless, and need their offices to give them a sense of purpose, so are going in even when they don’t need to. Which is crazy to me.

I’m no presto - I do miss seeing people, lunches and occasional AWDs - but I’ll be fucked if I’m going to ride transit, navigate downtown and sit in an office all day.

My productivity baselined. But I’ve been busy as balls so taking out the commute (mine is 30 mins each way) has been nice.

Do agree on quality of life - better pace. I’m also eating much better, even though food options are actually better near my house than office (save for a burrito place that was for sure totally processed and killing my insides)

Not only are we not locking down, a lot of people are treating things like we're back to normal with slight changes to their normal way of life. I just got a reschedule request email from a client because she and her husband are too busy for the session right now because her husband (high school teacher) is back coaching rugby 3x a week after school.

How in the **** are we allowing high school sports right now?
I drove passed a school today and I saw a bunch of kids out playing in the school yard. Not a single one of them had a mask on. Just the teacher on yard duty. 😷 WTF

I’m worried about the winter. I have had 2 people from high school commit suicide in the past month. I can only imagine the mental health implications of this prolonged with little outdoor/social/support options.

Kids who are
Masking up all day indoors, aren’t going to wear masks outdoors. It’s just not realistic.
