OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

We had 1 local spot that did take your temperture before you would be allowed in. Really liked the concept and hoped it would be used on a larger scale.
Yup. It's obviously not perfect because of asymptomatic and presymptomatic folks that take up much of the spreading, but it's one of many bullets that we should be using to tackle this. 8 months in and we've had very little adaptation. I expected better, but that's probably my own fault.

I was under the impression that temperature was debunked as a viable measurement for the 'Rona
It's not perfect but there isn't a silver bullet to tackle this. We need as many initiatives as possible to help curb the spread.

A big problem is knowing how to properly use such a device. People just point and click and that's it, but like any digital device, it should be calibrated frequently to ensure they are accurate. For standard digital thermos, I think they recommend weekly calibration to ensure the accuracy. Without calibration, these devices become useless, especially if it drifts towards the lower end.
With that said, I have not worked in a retail setting that employs these, so perhaps the staff are properly trained and have rigid standards in place, but my gut is telling me nah.

I do get your point though and I agree that little things overlapping can increase everyone's protection!

dunno bout y'all but I am cooking some poultry for thanksgiving. one of a handful of times a year the missus consents to such activity, gotta take full advantage.

I’m leaving candy on the stoop. Once gone it’s gone. Sorry kids. It’s mostly the ahole teens that don’t even bother dressing up anyway after like 8:30.

Is it the same in florida where teens go out until they are basically in university?

Spoken to a few people who are putting PVC pipe down their railing to use as a chute to maintain distancing

Kind of neat idea

just listened to dr hinshaw

1. edmonton is going bad (900 active cases)
2. suicide rates in alberta have not gone up (over the previous 5 year average)

the suicide rate has become this talking point for not locking down so i found that interesting

a few things though - alberta has pretty much been normal (restaurants, fitness, etc all a go) for awhile, perhaps some people are doing better because they are working from home?, maybe people are doing better at understanding depression, but just because suicide is not up doesnt mean addiction, depression, and other issues are not up
