OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Edmonton "voluntary" measures. 15 people indoor gatherings (down from 50).

I blame Bettman.

Spoke with a parent today who believes in CO2 poisoning from wearing masks so Im not shocked by the recent rise

Getting real out of control now. Ford pulled a trump on this one. Took way too long to react. Far more difficult to control the spread now.

Edit: looks like they'll report 970 cases. Good lord.

Ya, after handling the initial outbreak quite well, Ford and the province have fucked this up now.

You can tell just by their press conferences and the way they release stats. Its always somebody else's fault. Those damn millennials can't stop getting COVID while they work in restaurants and retail. You can also tell they're getting ready to blame everybody for not spending thanksgiving alone.

Yeah, I was almost ready to respect them in their handling, but then they basically did nothing once the numbers started dying down, and aggressively pushed to reopen with no plan other than hope and prayers. And then have steadfastly refused to go back or shut things down again, while giving very vague and mixed messaging. I'm sure they're terribly disappointed that this spike has started before the holiday week, so they can't only use thanksgiving gatherings as the excuse for the rise.

*Although now sounds like they will put Toronto and Ottawa back to a modified phase 2, so closing gyms and indoor seating in restaurants. Like a week or more too late, but something at least.

Sun Media has aggressively been pushing anti-lockdown pseudoscience as of late, so I'm guessing Ford's reluctance to go to another lockdown is rooted in him not wanting to piss off his base.

I’m not blaming the government (provincial or federal) for the uptick. From the very start of the pandemic a second wave was predicted. Europe seems to be well into theirs.

I understand that a complete shutdown again should be a last resort. A targeted short term pause for high risk places makes sense but even with that people have to take some responsibility for their own risk management.

It might be easy to say shut down everything if you can work from home. That is not an option for many.

You kinda can blame them. They opened Casinos on the same day they had 700 new cases.

This is not the type of decision making you expect from the people you elect to run your province

FYP. too reactive and sat on their hands until it was too late.

Yeah, I mean, everyone knew there would be a second wave, especially once you opened schools up. So I'm not going to blame anyone for that happening. But absolutely you can blame them for being too aggressive to re-open non-critical pieces like bars and casinos, and then now being too slow to react to the up-tick. Toronto's health officer asked last week with cases rising for the government to shut some things back down, and only now are they reacting.

Now, better late than never, and hopefully the new rules will prevent us from going all US on this, but the government here certainly took their time.
