OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

To help those who want a worry-free day: an ICU nurse's account of any illness is likely to be 1000 more dire than the average person since they only see the very worst cases. As we know, a very small percentage of people with this virus end up in the ICU. But yes... If you end up in the ICU your chances of being fucked for life are probably relatively high.

The good news is that I'm more bullish on a vaccine coming next year than I've ever been. I am still seeing some medical professionals say it's going to come 4 years in a very best case scenario since these things require years of testing (usually 10 years worth), but I think the vast majority are bullish on it coming next year. There are a lot of candidates in or heading into phase 3 trials and these are desperate times...

The US Covid-19 shit show is a good motivational tool for other governments to convince their citizens to remain cautious.
You just know Trudeau is gonna be soft and open up the boarder, if for just a while and then cave to pressure to close it again. I would have it secured by the military until we can get this shit under control.

For sure, but still scary that so many patients joined the twitter thread to explain their nightmare scenarios. Definitely not the regular flu. Stay safe.

No doubt. It's devastating for a small (but relatively speaking, pretty fucking large) group of people even if the vast majority get the sniffles. It's dangerous because my mother in-law had it and pretty much got the sniffles. She's a nurse so she should know better but... She and the rest of her family are no longer really taking it as seriously because of how mild the symptoms were for HER. I think that's happening a lot around North America in particular. "My brothers sisters friends cousin had it and she just lost her sense of smell LOL I'm not scared!."

I think sometime next year there will be a vaccine that will be ready for general consumption. The concerns I have:
1. We're probably going to be rushing it, so pray that there's no unintentional long-term side effects
2. How quickly can they mass produce them? And who gets it first?

This thing has hit virtually every country in the world, meaning that you need like 7B vaccine doses to cover the planet. Even if they discover it, how fast are people going to be able to manufacture and distribute it? Is it going to be like the contagion film where they draw lots, and my vaccine day comes a year later than yours?

The plan is to start with those working in healthcare. And then slowly roll it out to the masses. The virus will largely be under control even if it is given to about half the global population. Will take awhile, but it's our only hope of getting out of this.

And FYI many of the candidates are already mass producing them in the off chance that it's the one approved. It's fascinating to see what big dick funding could do for science.

I thought bill gates was funding and building manufacturing for 10 vaccine candidates hoping one of them would work.

These states don't need a roll-back, they need strict, lock-it-down, stay home measures. Which is never going to happen. The thing is too rampant to contain otherwise.

Wave 1, mark 2.

This is not the 2nd wave...

US is going to be the only country that gets a 3rd wave, that will really be the 2nd wave because they fucked the 1st wave up as hard as something like this can possibly be fucked.

Well...Brazil might challenge them in the P4P rankings, now that I think about it.

It's scary because in the 1918 Pandemic, Wave 2 was 20X Wave 1. Which makes sense because Wave 1 started with one patient. Yikes.

The worst part for me is the unknown. What's it going to be like in 6 months? 12 months? 18 months? Is there going to be a vaccine? That's our only out at this point... I feel like every scientist contradicts the next with regards to the timing of a vaccine. Fauci says possibly early next year, another article says 4 years would be optimistic. Some say it's unlikely we'll ever have a vaccine. Mostly I just want answers so I can prepare myself.
