OT: Movies/TV Shows

Yup - saw it. But strangely, I can't really remember it much at all. I'll rewatch if I come across it.

The story with Sheridan is that he was a failed actor who pivoted to writing and made a name for himself. The funny thing is, I don't think he's really given up on that acting dream because he finds ways to squeeze himself into the stuff he writes. Like, he inserted himself into the most absurdly irrelevant and inane B story on Yellowstone, and he's such a ridiculously unlikeable guy that it added to the unwatchability of later seasons. He tries to pull off this aura of shrewd fast-talking tough guy, and he's just such a poser that it's almost sad to watch. Within the industry, he's also a noted douche and hustler, and he's partnered up with a guy who was Harvey Weinstein's right hand man for many years, who is naturally a similar scumbag. You are the company you keep.

I heard he’s also started playing cowboy in real life or something too, buying ranches and selling horses or some shit……he definitely sounds like a real cornball.

Enough of a Cornball to cause Kevin Costner to leave the only successful thing he had done in 20 years and choose to make his own shitty western series.

Yellowstone was already kinda in the toilet before he left, but that was the nail.

Not only does he buy ranches, but he bought the specific one that they used on Yellowstone and rented it back to production for the show at an obscenely above-market rate.

Paramount gives him anything he wants and doesn't challenge a thing.

I lowkey stan the Horizon films…I’m a sucker for any half decent throwback, dusty western.

Written by Elmore Leonard.

I’d never realized that when I watched it, but purchased a book of Elmore Leonard’s early work which was all short story westerns….only to discover 3:10 to Yuma in it.

The costner doc series? Very good imo.

Wyatt Earp is terrible, but i can recall enjoying Open Range without being to tell you anything about it.

Yeah, Open Range was quietly an awesome watch. Thoroughly enjoyed that one. I’ve seen it twice but long overdue for a rewatch.

still never seen Earp, but I’ve heard people discuss it as a bit of a cult classic/better than Tombstone.

Despite being panned when released.

So Sheridan is the Mitch Marner of TV then?
