OT: The M-Fing Food Thread

I’m not really a coffee aficionado, but an ex was so I bought a Nespresso so she could use that at my place and she was into it. I still have it but don’t use it, so it’s now a Nexpresso. I figured this thing would be the top choice among people who love coffee, and yet not mentioned so it’s probably frowned upon.

This post had everything….a 😆 for “Nexpresso” …but then takes a turn & gets a snobby 🙄 for “figured it’d be the top choice” only for you to stick the landing with some great 🕵️‍♂️ work earning a 👏🏼 for deducing the proper answer.

Nespresso’s can be perfect for people who don’t care too much about coffee (or the environment) and can enjoy it perfectly fine so long as it’s pumped with plenty of sugar & milk to cover for its sins. (I’d take it over shit pre-ground drip coffee any day, tho)

…but yeah, they’re kinda the microwave dinners of coffee. (amongst us snobby pricks)

….but there’s also value in suffering through a normies coffee from time to time, to remind yourself why you have the ritual you do, or pay the $$$ you do to get those quality results.

my friend just bought himself a super fancy home-brew set-up after doing a ton of research and auditioning some other systems... just waiting to hear back from him and will pass it along. have sampled the goods and can speak to the machine's quality. this friend is Montana/ME-esque in his research and diligence so I expect his machine is a good (and expensive) one.

There is something to be said for the ritual of hand grinding beans, and making your pour-over with an oh so satisfying gooseneck kettle pour….there’s just an extra aesthetic, meditative, words can’t properly capture value added, that amounts to more than just a tastier cup of coffee.

Decent Espresso - DE1 Pro. Pretty sure the same company makes a grinder you can buy with the machine, which does not have its own.

I don't have a lot of toys. I'm a simple man with simple pleasures. But this is a product I cannot live without after experiencing it for about a year. I was happy to grind it out with my Hario v60 pour over for many many years but at a certain point you start valuing convenience over searching for that perfect cup of coffee to your taste. I would temp the water, time the extraction process, etc. Now I press a button and my hopes and dreams are fulfilled every time. That's all I want at this stage of my life.

Price isn't great though yeah.
Foot fetishes are not what I’d deem a simple pleasure

What rig did he purchase? Would you find out please.

Was too snobby for drip coffee for years, but recently I’ve been toying with the idea of becoming a more reasonable person. Anyone have any experience with a moccamaster? I have friends who swear by it, but I don’t really trust their coffee-related judgement.

I can enjoy a good latte with a pastry sometimes, and went through a recent phase where I’d get an iced coffee every day as an excuse to take a break, but it’s not nearly important enough for me to go to Colombia to bring back beans or whatever else it is you guys are doing. But I respect the passion!

Btw, @Montana
Your West Coast tip proved to be a fruitful one. The 2lb bag delivered by Bezos for $20/lb is fine and super convenient for everyday use.

When I’m feeling in a more exacting mood a la Presto, I can audible for a tastier, and fresher roast from Detour or Melo

Think I'm going to go with this

I actually know someone with this exact machine. They love it. They also buy green coffee beans and roast in their own oven, so they’re not joking around, and not just lazy.

Buying green beans and self roasting is the furthest thing from being lazy. It’s a pain in the ass, I discovered, and I gave up after a few months — and I even had my own mini coffee roaster

Thanks. That helps solidify my decision.

Oh and I won't be doing any green bean stuff. Not worth the time expense. I'm just lazy. They built this machine for me.

Awesome, glad you enjoy it….I find it’s an idea daily driver for the price….then when I try out fresh beans from local roasters, I have that base to contrast it off.

…and if you throw it on a amazon subscription, it’s about $14/lb or so.
