OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

I just watched the pick. I was hoping for the Duke Centre there, and well, they picked a versatile long defender. OG, but at #8.

I was surprised they didn't go upside here. The one thing I can think about, after reading some of the quotes, is they wanted a guy that can play right away (defensively).

Question: doesn't he play the same position as Barnes and Mogbo? ESPN had CMB as the next best player so it wasn't an overdraft.

Yeah, CMB is a similar mold to those 2. Mostly 4's who can play the 3 and some small ball 5.

We clearly have a type

There are still 2-3 C that got pushed out of the 1st round because of the C depth in the draft. I would guess we look at one.

There is a tall white, stretch French, Scrabble Auzzie, and Auburn tall

oh lord no. Reaves is legitimately good. Like, a top ~30 player offensively good. He gives some of it back on the defensive end, but only some.

This is more like the OG situation, where his previous contract doesn't allow for a max extension larger than what he can get as a free agent. Reaves will easily get the type of deal we gave Quickley in free agency, probably more tbh. He may have to go somewhere like Brooklyn or Washington to get it though, but this is going to be his one chance to really get a bag in his career, so he's going to have to maximize it.

Bulls shopping Lonzo Ball and Coby White, i wonder if either, but especially White makes some sense for us

Orlando apparently offered a fairly substantial package for Coby White (something like KCP + 2 1sts) and were turned down, before the Bane deal got cooking.

age and impact wise, he's basically RJ. 1 year from FA, signed to 13 millie this season, which I guess has some value. But his next deal is probably Quickleyish. Pass.

Lonzo though? Signed 2 x 10 (2nd year is a team option) as a packup PG who still has excellent D and can shoot? Yes pls. He's trade restricted until August. At his size I think you could play him next to IQ in a small ball lineup, or next to Shead to stabilize the bench group.
