OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Bench will look a lot better in a month or so I think.

- Dragic will play his way out, he's very very washed. Just completely done out there. His head knows where he wants to get to and what he wants to do, the body just isn't willing. Maybe if we had a big that he could play a 2 man game with his shooting would still play but none of our bench bigs have that type of ability. Boucher has the scoring ability to draw the double, but doesn't have the awareness to know when to pass out and when to shoot, he's always in shooting mode.
- Flynn will play his way in to those minutes
- Trent will replace Svi as the guy with the quick trigger on the 2nd unit (the first unit only needs him now while Pascal is out). I'm starting to see why Svi has bounced around the league, there's no IQ there.

The way things are starting to shake loose I think the rotation ends up looking like this:

Starters
C- Precious (Averaging a double/double in his first 3 games? I'll take it. Needs to learn to pick his spots from a shot selection standpoint but is doing enough right. Would like to see him down to 7-8 FGA though. High energy garbage man type stuff....Montrez basically)
PF- Pascal
SF- OG
G-Fred
G-Scottie (would use these two like we used Fred-Kyle basically with them trading primary ballhandling/playmaking back and forth)

Bench
C-Khem
PF-Boucher
SF-Yuta
SG-Trent
PG-Flynn

Team needs a better FVV starter

Package him and OG and go shopping

Fvv is in the same place Kyle was a bunch of years ago. Great player but looks overmatched when no one else out there with him can make and take shots. When he has to force his offence, he struggles.

He and OG are keepers, 100%

Sure , but where and how do we get the next Kawai ?

Draft/develop, free agency, disgruntled star trade for pennies on the dollar.

Thats if we even need a "kawhi" and running 5 long bois out there who defend like escaped mental patients doesn't rebreak the game that golden state recently broke

Great to have a team of positionless determined defenders in the regular season who all contribute

Playoffs are about elite game breaking scorers who close games , no gots when Kawai and uncle Dennis hopped on a plane

Emulating the great D of the Pistons is great but they had elite rim and interior defenders with the Wallace bros

Kawhi Yr3 (22): 29.1min (18.3usg%), 12.8pts (60.2ts%), 6.2rb (1.2off), 2.0ast (1.2to)
Kawhi Yr4 (23): 31.8min (23.0usg%), 16.5pts (56.7ts%), 7.2rb (1.3off), 2.5ast (1.5to)
Barnes Yr1 (20): 32.7min (22.5usg%), 18.0pts (57.1ts%), 10.0rb (4.3off), 1.7ast (2.3to)
Kawhi Yr5 (24): 33.1min (25.8usg%), 21.2pts (61.6ts%), 6.8rb (1.3off), 2.6ast (1.5to)

I would also argue that Milwaukee just won a title without an elite closer as well.

Freak went nuts offensively in the playoffs even with being a so so shooter

He was possessed to score in different ways without a 3 pointer

KM was outstanding and clutch and Jrue was great defensively and put up decent numbers

Big 3 averaged 77 points a night in the finals , that wins titles .

Freak went nuts, but it wasn't the traditional "walk the ball up court and give it to your guy" performance. It was Giannis being Giannis. Fast break, offensive rebound put backs, etc. It shows that you don't need to be the guy with the elite pull up jumper to apply so much consistent pressure in the 4th quarter that your opponents break.

Remember, Giannis' most important single play of the entire series was breaking up that Ayton alley-oop tied at 99 in game 4. But it was Middleton who was the "closer" in that game. Hit the jumper to tie it, the jumper to put them up 2 and then the 4 FT's to ice it.

That wasn't a Mike/Kobe/Kawhi type closer performance from Giannis, but he still made the biggest play of the quarter. You need guys to step up and make shots in those pressure situations, it doesn't necessarily need to be a "Kawhi". Shit, our Kawhi shot better than 44% in two games of the finals and .400 or worse in 3 of 6.

100% FVV and OG gotta stay. Like ME says let’s build that perennial regular season team again and then worry about finding the right situation for a game breaker. And FVV has to stay to help keep the correct attitude around the team. His leadership is much more valuable now than before.

He’s also as good an on the ball defender as there is at pg on this side of cp3, a near 40pct 3pt shooter and can play with the ball in his hands without turning it over.

he definitely has a weakness around the rim but, which may be the only thing separating him from being a top 5 pg in the league.

but, ya you obviously don’t trade the guy.
