OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Fwiw, the word in Kings land is that they want Lavine, but this is the best package they have for him:

Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter + stuff (up to an including Davion) and picks

Barnes is signed for 2 more years after this and isn't good. Huerter is pretty okay and is signed 2 more years at a decent number. The Raptors can get them a fairly comparable player to Huerter (but who needs a contract) and out from under the rest of that Lavine cap hit faster using Thad & Boucher.

really it's probably about convincing him to want to play here though, no?

He's pretty unhappy in Chicago and it doesn't take squinting very hard to see a good team with him, Pascal, and Scottie. He also doesn't have a ton of say beyond threatening to refuse to report, but the league is taking a pretty heavy handed approach with that now as we saw during the Dame situation. He doesn't have a no trade or anything like that.

Also, fwiw. Sacto can't include Harrison Barnes in a deal until Dec 29th.

any chance the lakers can swing a deal for him?

I think i read LAL is possible if they find a third team to facilitate a deal.

I guess my question is, is Lavine the guy Lebron wants, and is Lavine something LAL wants to be stuck with once Lebron goes away?

Not until mid December (D'ro unlocks on the 15th) and probably not until mid January when Riu unlocks.

As importantly, the Lakers can't trade their 1sts. NOP owns their choice of the Lakers 1st this year or next year, and the Stepien rule doesn't allow you to trade consecutive 1sts.

So it breaks down thusly

24: NOP has option on it or the 25 pick
25: Locked up for that season reason
26: They can't trade this because they don't know if they're trading the '25 yet
27: Gone in the 3 way deal to punt on Westbrook and bring in D'ro, and it's top 4 protected
28: Can't trade this because their 27 pick is gone
29: Can trade this.

So the Laker 1sts are locked up basically forever.

Lakers will do whatever LeGM asks for.

A 3rd team doesn't even really do a whole lot here though. The only pieces of theirs with any value is probably Hachimura & Reaves. Both of those two are trade locked until Jan 15th.

What's in it for the 3rd team? Lakers don't have many picks left in this decade to work with. Riu and Reaves are fine rotation players, I guess. No one wants D'Ro (he was the dump the Lakers took so they could get rid of one of the worst contracts in the league).

I'm sure the Lakers would love to add Lavine, but I don't see it working on a few levels. Sacto is way more likely, we're way more likely, Miami is way more likely.

So the bones of the deal are

To CHI: Trent, Boosh, Thadd
To TOR: Lavine

?

Yeah, probably plus the Raptors 2026 1st, or 3 way with another club that gets Chicago a 1st this year or next instead and they take our 2026 1st and a small sweetener.

imo, the betting favourites for Lavine should be

Raps: GTJ, Boucher, Thad, 2026 1st
Sacto: Barnes, Huerter, 2026 1st
Miami: Lowry, Jovic, stuff, 2027 1st
Orlando: Gary Harris, Wendell Carter Jr, Mo Wagner, 2024 1st
Indiana: Hield, McConnell, Stuff, 2024 1st, 2026 1st

The Dolphins pod i listen to dabbles in Heat stuff, and i've heard the Heat do not think Lavine fits with Heat culture.

I'd believe that. Though they're going to be big game hunting with Lowry's contract and I don't think they're going to have their choice of targets. Combine that with Jimmy being 34 and Pat might take a risk on Lavine fitting in with their silly bullshit.

They take that silly bullshit crazy serious.

Apparently one of the reasons they kept Udonis Haslem around so long is that he was in charge of taking any new member of the Heat ( star, draft pick, role player, whoever) on a tour of a city, showing both the party side and gang side of Miami, and really envoking the Heat Culture thing on these guys immediately

Yeah, Dennis has the ball way too fucking much. I get that Darko is coming from a system where the ball in a quick PG's hands worked, but Dennis isn't Fox. If he's trying to replicate that Sacto shit here, run more Scottie and Pascal as Sabonis and less Dennis as D'Aron.

If you want Dennis carrying the ball up court, I get that, but once he clears half he should immediately be looking for the DHO with Pascal or Scottie, whoever you're running this set through.

I mean they're limited in what they can do there. We're stuck with him handling the ball a good chunk.

But Scottie's elite shot creating there is pretty great to see.

Not in the half court though. He shouldn't be our initiator once the ball crosses half. He's an okay enough jump shooter to work off ball as a spacer and quick enough to attack aggressive close outs in that situation. We're just in a position that we have to strangle as much efficiency out of the starters as we can at the offensive end. Dennis having the ball that much just isn't going to lead to that.

Agreed. If Scottie finds a signature offensive weapon I think he goes MVP level from here tbh. He does everything else at a high level.
