OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

the guy who got 17 rebounds for the sixers tonight is 6'7.

Yeah, I'm entirely agnostic about how tall the dude is within reason. I would like a bench body that can interior defend and rebound but is mobile enough to not get hunted in P/R. Goga, Time Lord if both knees are intact, etc.

Per 36: 15.0pts (55.8ts%), 6.6rb (3.6off), 2.1st/2.1to, 1.5st/1.1bk

Pretty good 1st career 8gms at 20.

Hes looked good for a rookie, better than I've expected. But both bpm and epm think he's been a back of the bench level player and I agree with that as well. He makes plays on the defensive end but definitely looks undersized when he's defended the interior.

Hes an NBA player now, which is good. Hes fine, but he's not good yet. He can play some minutes without getting killed but isn't winning his minutes either.

Epm rookie default set him at less than -3 to start and he's moved up to a -1.9 already. Cooper Flagg at -1.4 for comps. Edgecombe -0.7. Harper -1.6.

He put up a -23.0 bpm in his first career game but is pretty much even since (-0.2).

10 games in....

A lot of the Raps have big holes to dig out of after last year's write-off tank season.....but it seems to be happening for most of them.

In the advanced stats here only BPM and EPM are for sure absolutely updating every game. The DPM is definitely accurate as of the start of the season but i'm not sure if it's actually updated regularly in-season yet. Lebron for this year isn't available yet. and BPM is always the noisiest of these advanced stats - it fluctuates much more with hot and cold streaks. So all in all EPM is probably the best single number to look at right now.

But some things are developing as hoped. The starting lineup is showing that all 5 are legit at least average NBA starters (even with Poeltl and IQ's cold starts), with BI and RJ moving from slightly negative to at least break even already. Scottie has moved from only a tick above average into 'legit good' territory now (which is where he was for the most part before last year's tank season), and if he keeps up this play he should be able to move back up in the +4 impact territory that he touched on before. Poeltl and IQ shouldn't have much trouble getting back into the solidly plus territory once they put their cold starts behind them. Not sure BI and RJ will ever get up into true impact territory again but they've already bumped up significantly from their preseason marks and if they keep playing like this should be able to get up in to the +1-2 solid range.

The starting group all looks minimum solid already there, with the trend definitely pointing up.

The more surprising development might be the bench tho. Mamu looks like a legit bench weapon - already positive on the nerdies despite starting the year well below sea level. And then of all the kids, the one who has actually shown legit progress on his already decent rookie year is Shead - he looks like a legit good bench PG already, and it's starting to look like there's real starting upside there too. Those two are giving us quality on the bench better than anything we had last year. And then CMB is starting to look good too, and better than any of the rookies last year. That's 3 quality bench pieces that we just didn't have last year.

And remember, last year even when healthy we had Dick/Agbaji in the starting lineup, not just on the bench.

but the bench wings are the worry spot. Dick has been ok (and really he's actually improved his nerdies a bunch this year so maybe he's ok), but Agbaji and Walter have both been horrific, and I'm not sure either is an NBA player.

I know coaches love the idea of defense, even if agbaji and walter aren't actually good defensively, but Battle is such an ace shooter that coach should really be giving him more run ahead of those two.

Basically what i'm expecting/hoping for here is that the starting lineup all turns at least light blue, in full time starting roles, with at least one (scottie) getting up into darker blue, and that Mamu/CMB/Shead get to light blue in bench roles. As far as the bench wings I hope at least one of them can get to light orange if not break even.

A thing i'm looking at is whether all 4 of Scottie/BI/RJ/IQ can get near or above 20% usage, 20% assist rate, and 60% true shooting. I think they'll come somewhere close to it and i think that would be an extremely rare thing for any starting lineup to have.

Even Poeltl should be able to get to 15usg%/15ast%/60ts%.

I remember when the raps hired Wilkins and people thought he was super old and the game had passed him by and he was… 3 years older than boobay is right now
