OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

It'd be the one time to cahs in while his value is high, before you have to pay him 25m a year.

But especially since Vlad seems to be falling off being a franchise player, Bo is probably the closest there is to a perennial all-star on the roster. And maybe he also ends up like Semien, where eventually he shifts to 2b and becomes a legit stud defensively there. He's the guy on the roster right now where you just have to suck it up and pay him the FA rate, whatever that ends up being.

Just pay Bo. It’s the easiest call these guys will ever have to make. Yeah, the contract might look bad down the road but that’s a risk with anyone, not a reason to let a home grown star player walk.

if they have ambitions of actually winning anything anytime soon, then yeah

The only way moving him makes any sense is if Bo quietly asked to be moved.

Now, if we blunder 2024 then trading him with a year left makes some sense, but with a new GM in place. I cant fathom Atkins being allowed to do a startover.

Suarez to Zona for Seby Zavala and a RP with a 99 mph sinker.

I feel like whenever the Jays resolve their 3B situation im going to look at the Suarez cost and get upset

Kind of see Eugenio Suarez as a poor man's Matt Chapman, dude has power but strikes out more, is 2 years older and defense looks to be solid, but nowhere near as good (though seems to have spiked up last year). Contract is reasonable enough ($11.3m next year with a team option for $15m after that), but he's pretty meh overall.

Only way you move either Vlad or Bo is if they said there is no chance they resign here. I don’t see that being the case. Pony up the money.
There’s no reason to think either have said this though. And Atkins was talking about these potential extensions when he coined the term “sweet spot of shared risk”. So we already know that the reason they aren’t signed is because they aren’t willing to sign at a number and term that meets this admin’s risk tolerance.

So now we just get to wait and see if they sack up, or if they risk-avoid their way out of locking up two of the best young players this organization has ever seen.

I think it is funny that for the last 5 or so years, this thread has been filled with people saying "The Jays won't spend", "Rogers is too cheap", when year after year they spend big bucks to get top-end FAs. At a certain point, aren't you just being conspiratorial?
