Pierre-Luc Dubois Thread

Since the topic seems to hijack a bunch of different threads, I'd rather just keep it here.

So, let's talk about this.

(Full disclosure, I didn't watch very much of the Las Vegas - Winnipeg series, just going off of what's been reported)

Just a question worth asking - Are we sure Dubois isn't a quitter?

He's quit in Columbus, he seems to have quit in Winnipeg. Both times seem to have come when things weren't going his way.

Are you sure that's the kind of player you want to give a long-term, pricey contract to?

Before Krusty attacks me again.. let it be on record my preference would be to cough up that 1st rounder for Lafreniere or another young ELC expiring talent (like Dach acquisition last year) vs PLD.

but what my preferences are, and what the market in reality has to offer are rarely in synch…

Another question... As we sure he is a centre?

I don't think that matters (that) much for us.

If he is, Kirby Dach goes to the wing. If he isn't, Dach stays at center and Dubois would be with Caufield & Suzuki.

I think he is a center, but my worry about him is whether or not he's mentally able to get through the tough times.

Don't need him to be but the concerns are valid. Can't just expect him to change because he's playing at home.

I've downgraded PLD to a second round pick at most. Jets are truly fucked because another team will not overpay for him playing like that.

PLD discussion starts at 6:54

Marek - PLD has interest in playing for other teams than Montreal, but we all saw/heard what transpired at the draft.

Friedman - I heard a team was willing to trade for PLD last year and take him on for 2 years, even if he wants to go to Montreal. - Also said teams are still looking at him as a 1 year rental

Friedman - If the Jets ask for Dach, if the deal was that simple it would be done already.

Winnipeg is going to do the best deal they can for PLD.
The info without a doubt is being leaked by Chevaldayoff…. who’s playing the comms game. This isn’t coming from Dubois’ camp.

The fact remains that Habs are going to make an offer once the dust is settled. That’s a given. And that the Jets have no leverage. None. In ANY trade possibility with any team. There is not a scribe in this league, let alone a GM, that doesn’t know by now that Dubois wants out.

My concern isn't what we'll have to give up to get him. It's the contract he's going to get.

He's going to get 7-8 years @ $8M, similar to the Suzuki deal.

I don't think I can give a player who's quit on multiple teams that contract and even feel remotely good about it.

I would imagine they would have a good idea of what the camp is looking for prior to making any deal. It's the GM/Agent combo that we have in HuGo

Not saying PLDs worth $8M, but need to keep in mind the cap ceiling will surpass $100M within 2-seasons, if not sooner with the revenue success of Sea, VGK and now uptick in some longtime bottom dwellers NJD, Canes etc

If he isn't a centre I have zero interest. Maybe at an extremely good cap hit.

He seems like the new generation who knows that they don't need to accept things they don't like. That being said, his performance has been remarkably consistent year to year and if anything, the last one was his best PPG wise.

A rising cap is pointless when your team isnt ready to win and your paying big coin to PLD types
