We can all agree on what happened. The Habs made the finals. Where we disagree is on the significance of what happened vis a vis the Habs' near future. You and other seem to think that making the finals means something simply because it happened. Geeman and I, among others, are of the opinion that the circumstances which make such a thing possible need to be taken into account, especially when those particular circumstances are unlikely to replicate themselves ever again.

In other words, if your team was garbage under the normal circumstances present during a regular NHL season, and they only stopped being garbage when those circumstances drastically changed, it's probably safe to assume that once things return to normal, your team's performance will also go back to being what it was before: i.e. garbage.

Making the finals in an asterisk-laden season does not magically transform the Habs into contenders. There are actual contenders and then there are flukes and one off's. We are in the latter group. Bergevin hasn't done nearly enough to put this team into contention for anything but the last wildcard spot.
Therefore, I expect to see asterisks next to TBay’s last two Cup wins with a footnote “Covid flukes”?

I think you’re misunderstanding my point, which was that the moves that MB made last September and October worked as planned, so I think he deserves some credit, not that the Habs are Cup favorites this season.

Fair enough, although I'm not sure I'd give him credit for actually having a plan that didn't revolve around Carey Price and the power of prayer.

What is this years plan ?
Less focus on size vs last season and more focus on skill & increased team speed - for division matchup

Generate more offense via improved PP to offset 5-on-5 drop with Danault loss and still be a net gain - Caufield + Hoffman

I suspect MB will acquire a youngish PMD via trade, and a veteran C to help Suzuki & KK shoulder some key faceoffs & Dzone plays

If Buffalo trades Eichel to Ottawa, Brady Tkachuk or Thomas Chabot has to be the centerpiece going the other way. Anything short of that, they shouldn't be interested.

Buffalo simply won't get value. Doesn't matter how long they wait.
Oh i fully agree. I just find it funny seeing all internet posters thinking Buffalo will receive all the blue chips prospects when pretty much no teams are even willing to offer a single one.

Besides Dvorak, there is also Nick Schmaltz in Zona. I dont know enough about the player but he has a heavy $5.8 mill cap hit for 5 years.
