Sean Walker to the Canes

I mean...that is less than Brett Pesce on an AAV. They are about the same age, but Sean Walker is a smaller player.

Keeping Skjei and Slavin was the way to go for me as at least two anchors long term on D here...if you are paying guys like Sean Walker $5 million you can certainly justify Skjei at $7 million...yeah the term is long for Brady but he's full value for me on both sides of the puck not to mention the minute muncher he is..

Yeah, head scratcher. Somebody thinks Roddy can make any defensemam decent, I guess.

Walker had a VERY good showing in Colorado, who play a hybrid system not that different to Carolina's. So the transition shouldn't be an issue. Not sure about the value, but he's a solid addition. Rightie who can play both sides. I like this move.

$3.5 mil AVV is much more like it. He's much more mobile than Pesce and can play both sides. Again, should be a good fit. Walker isn't physical but he's not a shrimp either. I've seen that tossed around. He spent a ton of time in LA's system which wasn't a good fit for him at all, but really looked good once he got to Philly and carried it on when he got to Colorado. Again, not a big name player so everybody has their knives out, but I think Canes fans will be happy to have him once he settles in.

Except that Skjei signed with Nashville. Noesen & Pesce gone to NJD; Turbo back to CHI and we get haunted by the Ghost again for 3 yrs.

I thought Ghost’s last time here was uneventful. He was a DeAngelo upgrade and a smooth skater, but overall I had no regrets when he left for more money.

Ghost was fine when he was here. He gave us a bump on the PP early on but it faded pretty quickly because back then the problems were more in the forward group. Defensively, they sheltered him with Chatfield and he wasn't a problem until the playoffs when teams concentrated pressure on him. He's good at defending the blueline and retrieving pucks in the neutral zone, but he sucks along the boards in his own zone and gets over-powered by bigger forwards. Plus, you can chip it over his head so freaking easily. Nothing is gonna change that at this stage, and in general you can live with one guy like that.

Adding Ghost means TDA won't be back & that's worth a lot to me. He had his shot from the point working early in 1.0, but it flatered and got predictable as the season wore on. Forwards with hands and finish should help accent his play. I still think there's a deal brewing with a Necas trade to add scoring...damn well better be.
