The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Keefe has the blender out tonight but wont reveal his lines until game time

Blender should have been out a few games ago. Where February hasn't been as bad as Babcock's version of the Leafs offence, it hasn't been the Keef version either and imo the biggest culprit is right here:

HD Chances

Babcock: 10.79 (16th), 22.1 HDSH% (7th)
February: 12.89 (6th), 14.58 HDSH% (28th)

So we run a system that prioritizes HD chances and the total amount of HD chances has been good if not spectacular. We're converting those chances at a completely anemic rate though which is making the team look worse offensively than it's been imo.

Couple that, with this

February:
5v5 sv%: .904 (26th)
Total sv%: .881 (30th)

and you have the slide we've been on. Here are the silver linings

- This collection of talent is not going to shoot sub 15% on high danger chances for the rest of the season. Average is about 19% and good is about 21-22%. There is some regression to mean that is likely to happen there and we'll start scoring goals. We're generating chances. Arguably not as many as a group this talented should generate, but still far more than average.

- Frampbell can't possibly put up a combined .881 the rest of the way, can they? Even .900 is a huge improvement from that and heaven forbid Freddy rebounds into something resembling his non November career averages (.910ish?) and Campbell puts up similar.

Man, Freddy's psyche is riding on this one tonight. It would be crushing to lose both and to both Pens goalies.

Just let the dogs loose. Let them shoot the lights out. And whatever happens behind them, so be it. Just attack.

It's not that I don't like what he brings, I just feel like we should be rotating some of these bottom 6 guys in and out. Keep them hungry. Its not like our forwards have been world beaters lately.

Yeah, I've believed in this for a long time. I understand giving a ton of rope to established NHL'ers who have shown legit impact over extended periods of time to "get it going" (Think Kerfoot, Kappy, etc). But a guy like Engvall who hasn't had a point in like 12 games now, Goat, Tima, Moore when he was here, etc. Those guys should definitely be put in the pressbox for a game or two every couple of weeks to look at the game from a different angle, recharge their battery, etc.

Leafs lose 7-5, while giving up only a small handful of grade A chances all night, that all end up in the net.

I think we find a way to win tonight.

The alternative would send us off the tracks, and I just can’t believe that’ll happen.

Somebody is trying to turn Freddy into a puck-moving goalie, be that a challenge that he's put upon himself or one that the team has asked of him.

Either way, it's been a nightmare. Stay in the net Freddy, unless your zone is clear.

I think I'd rather he dump the puck over the glass and kill a penalty, than watch him race back into his net only to wave his glove at a goal against.

Yeah, he was excellent at it before.

He’s completely not himself right now. Whether it’s just confidence or some injury or both, something has messed him up this year.
