The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

In fairness, injured players almost never travel with the team. They are basically isolated from everyone until they start practicing. So that part is not unusual to me. I do think it's possible they granted him a leave of absence to clear his head and rest up anything nagging he may be going through physically.

Could just be that they gave him a month off to clear his head and get away from hockey and rest any nagging soreness he may have had (soreness that was clearly not enough to keep him out of games entirely, mind you). He was clearly going through some shit. He'll be back and we'll probably be welcomed with another Froctober of a cold Freddy.

I mean maybe but "we haven't gotten an update yet" after two follow up appointments with specialists but also "we're happy with his progress" seems a bit odd to me.

Yeah while I do think he wasn't 100% healthy I think it's possible that this was more about just getting him away from hockey for a bit and clearing his head. I think that happens more than we realize in pro sports.. Granting LOAs to take time away from hockey under the disguise of a physical injury. Understandably, they probably wouldn't want to put it on blast to the media so I get being vague if that's the cause for the absence.

They kind of did this with Sparks a couple years ago. Pull him from the roster/practices - and shield him from the media while working on his game. Of course he was also kept him away from the team, and eventually traded.

I'm not trying to be too alarmist but part of me is kinda surprised they're going ahead with the game before results. If he's positive, the Leafs and/or could find themselves in a Vancouver situation.

Hopefully my concern is for nothing and he's negative.

Justin Bourne says we shouldn't waste assets on a guy like Ullmark when we have other obvious holes in the lineup; we should be fine with one of Campbell or Andersen. But also says the Andersen thing is super weird and vague.

Why are these people paid for their opinions?

"other holes in the lineup"

I mean, I guess you could still argue that the Galchenyuk spot is a hole in the lineup despite how well he's played but it's not like we lack the secondary assets to do both add a goalie and a 2LW if that's the way we decided to go.

How the fuck are "Other holes" a bigger issue than goaltending right now? Especially when you admit the entire Freddy story is fishy as fuck.
How can you go into the playoffs potentially with Campbell and Hutch? It would make any other deal a massive waste of time and assets
