Winter 2026 Transfer Thread

AC Milan signs West Ham striker Nicolas Fullkrug on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy in the summer window. Milan just lost Santiago Gimenez to an ankle injury and had terminated Divock Origi’s contract in December.

Villa are considering terminating Harvey Elliott’s loan agreement according to The Athletic. If he makes 10 appearances, the move is permanent but he’s only appeared in 5 matches so far. If the loan is terminated again, Charlotte FC has expressed interest. Liverpool can’t loan him to another club that plays the late summer to spring schedule, so MLS is a viable option.

Villa have signed Brazilian youngster Alysson from Gremio. At 19, he’s not a finished product yet but he has impressed in age groups internationally. And yeah, news out of Birmingham is that Elliot’s deal will be terminated pending his agent’s efforts to find him another contract. Apparently that would mitigate Villa’s obligations to Liverpool, but it’s more complicated than I had attention span to read about … so … yeah.

Man City signs Sam Coffey from Portland Thorns for a reported $800k transfer fee.

And the talent just keeps draining out of NWSL

And on a semi-related note, with the WNBA looking like they’re heading for a labor stoppage, the US is once again poised to royally screw up a massive inflection point for women’s sports

Not a transfer but Bukayo Saku agreed to an extension with Arsenal. His contract was set to expire in June 2027, it was extended to 2031.

Sam Coffey’s move to Man City is complete. No terms were disclosed. The Athletic reports that this had been in the works for about 12 months. She signed a deal through the end of the 2028-29 season.

Donyell Malin is leaving Villa for Roma on loan with an obligation to buy. The deal is worth €25 Million with a €2 million loan fee.

Maybe Villa are thinking they can use Alysson off the bench when he gets up to speed. Otherwise, they’re moving out their only legit striker option behind Watkins for the second time in 3 seasons.

Had to get rid of his wages so that our top earner, Jaden Sancho, can continue to ride the bench. I felt like Malen was an overpay, but compared to Sancho... I love what Emery has done as manager, but maybe he needs to have a little less power and we have a little more long term planning rather than just spend like crazy and then spend the second half of the year figuring out how to sell assets to bring the cost back down.

Colorado native Lindsey Heaps will join the new NWSL club in Denver at the conclusion of her contract with OL Lyonnes in June. She signed a 3-1/2 year contract.

There’s some really touching video online of her making her announcement in Lyon and of her parents finding out that she’s coming home to Denver. Her husband is the GM for the San Diego FC team that’s joining MLS, so this gets them both back in the States.

She was really the first American to skip college and go straight to the pros, signing with PSG right out of high school. She took a 5 year detour to Portland before heading back to France.

Sounds like Arsenal have terminated Oleksander Zinchenko’s loan with Nottingham Forest and will send him to Ajax on loan for the rest of the season. He’s out of contract in June.

So, Villa have sold on Malen (to Roma), and bought in Tammy Abraham (from Besiktas, on loan from Roma, weirdly) for a net gain … for once … and solidified the second striker position. Abraham can come off the bench or play as a second striker with Watkins as required. And he knows this coming in, so there shouldn't be any drama with this one. He was eager to come back to the EPL and Villa and re-negotiated his weekly wages to a reasonable cost for his role. Nice work, I think. Abraham is a much more prototypical No. 9 for Emery’s system and should be a nice fit. He also has good history with the club after being their primary striker in their promotion campaign back in the day.

Then there’s the bandaid deal to take Douglas Luiz on loan. That’s to cover for Kamara’s injury and the other injuries in midfield. Again, he knows the system so it should be a good fit, but Luiz hasn’t played a lot of meaningful football since he left Villa in 2024. He was a part timer at Juventus and hasn’t managed to stay healthy enough to play his way into the regular rotation at Nottingham Forest this season either. He might be fully encased in rust at this point.

Crystal Palace striker Jean-Phillips Mateta is off to AC Milan for more than £26 million. To replace him, they signed Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for £48 million.

Ricardo Pepi is moving to Fulham from PSV for a reported $44 million if PSV can sign a replacement. Pepi broke his arm in January and is expected to to be out for 2 months. He could be out for US matches during the March break.
