Friend of mine’s daughter is a freshman this year and he says she feels robbed of half a year.
Mine is a h/s jr and is going to do her AP exams by laptop. Doubt any of us could ever have said that!

A friend of mine’s daughter just graduated from UNCW, where my oldest daughter works. In the last 2 years, since she started working there in July 2018, they lost almost the entire fall 2018 semester to Hurricane Florence, a shorter disruption last fall with Hurricane Dorian and then half of the spring semester this year.

My niece just finished at Fordham Law School, we were supposed to be headed to New York for graduation on Friday. Next up was supposed to be the bar exam, which the state rescheduled from the end of July to early September. There were some concerns about how to administer it because the biggest of the 5 statewide locations is the Javits Center, which had an emergency hospital for a while. But that’s cleared out now.

I brought up sports with Cal State because it's a sports board. If Fresno St, San Diego St and San Jose St. don't play that's 3 games in Mountain West that are off the schedule for most or all MW teams. Maybe those teams could only play conference road games. they could cancel non MW games. That would be a bad schedule so they may decide it's not worth it to have no home games. Princeton had a season of only road games while their stadium was torn down and rebuilt on the same site. Stanford tore down and rebuilt their stadium in 9 months by construction working 2 8 hour shifts per day . On the other hand Cal played in San Fran for a season while their stadium was rebuilt from scratch on the same site.
I specifically mentioned sports and news outlets. I was NOT busting on you.

NC bar exam still on for July. They have it at the state fairgrounds and NCSU McKimmon center. They also offer it in Feb.

Yep, the dates are uniform across the country, at least they are under normal circumstances. The July exam is by far the biggest, with recent graduates filling it. I googled a few states just to see; New Jersey and California are the same dates as New York. Massachusetts moved to the end of September. Among states that are opening quickly, Georgia postponed to early September, South Carolina and Florida haven’t changed yet. Texas is keeping the end of July dates but added early September too.

And what's the hurry about going back to in person classes this fall? Hopefully not just FB.
Because almost no university is set up to run 100% online classes indefinitely. Even the most tech forward schools still only generally offer 40% online options for standard undergrad lectures. Plus it's impractical to do lab work online for obvious reasons, and that really hurts STEM programs ... which have been a national priority for over a decade.

Labs are an issue. One reason people go to summer school is there are less projects and labs. I went to SS and I liked classes being only 5 weeks , did not mind going to class every day. Went to both sessions and that equaled 1 regular semester.

They don't promote it to the general public but the UNC system has a lot of degrees that are 100% online. They are listed here:

https://online.northcarolina.edu/

there are some 100% online degrees in tech fields for MS degree.

Most 100% online are BA/BS but some are MS/MA and a few are PhD level.

Train service between Raleigh and Charlotte has been shut down. NCDOT had suspended 2 of the 3 daily PiEdmonton trains on March 23. Today, they suspended the other. Amtrak had suspended the Carolinian, which ran from Charlotte to New York on April 6. The Carolinian is scheduled to restart on Monday.

The DOT is expecting about a $300 million revenue shortfall for March - May and they’re expecting bigger losses later.

Also it's sort of a surprise but the school with the most 100% online degrees is ECU. You would think it would be UNC or NCSU.

Quebec to allow non contact sports such as golf and tennis. Don't know when that starts.

That Piedmont service had been losing them money even before all this mess. They have suspended it so many times over the years that I've lost count.

ECU pushed hard for online students in all of their degree programs right from the advent of distance learning whereas UNC and State really don't push it all that hard other than for specific degree paths where the online aspect is required by other factors. State's engineering grad schools have a big online presence as the global marketplace pushed demand for educational services all over the world without the cost of housing and travel. Other than that, it's kind of an ad hoc thing for them that has grown over time with demand. UNC is fairly similar I understand.

Harvard Med school doing some online classes in the fall. Hopefully that does not include surgery. Or maybe they can fedex you a cadaver.

Harvard can buy FedEx with their endowment fund and still have more than $10 billion left over to purchase as many cadavers as they might need to send. They can pretty much do whatever they want to need to with the money they have.

But they had to be shamed into returning the stimulus money.

I have a couple jobs at the train station now. Place is dead.

UCal system telling faculty to prepare for online only classes in the fall.

Harvard has a $40 bil endowment but a lot of that money can only be used for certain things. They could easily give everybody free tuition but they don't because people are willing to pay. I believe if your family income is below a certain level you get free tuition. Maybe around $100k. ? Other Ivies have a similar scholarship plan. Of course the main reason Harvard has so much money is they started in 1636.

Montreal is turning 200 kilometres of street into a temporary "active transport corridor" for use by cyclists and pedestrians, given many Montrealers may be confined to the city this summer. The city already had plans to add 130 kilometres of bicycle paths this year.
