Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Apparently this isn't something that should be measured, because of free agents and young players already on the NHL roster.
It's more important than ever. Look how huge it is that we've got Robertson in there this season on a rookie deal. Pity it's wasted on another truncated covid season, but what can you do.

I thought the Athletic piece liked the Leafs pipeline (including Robertson). You guys are crazy insecure.

In their minds Robertson and sandin are neither nhlers nor prospects. They are a mystical in between.

not sure what you’re talking about, they were effusive about both, rating them as “Tier: High-end/very good bubble”

In terms of Sandin, I was pumping his tires probably before anyone else and certainly before zeke. Robertson, nary a negative word about him other than saying it's a bit foolish to think he's a certified NHLer at 18 (as zeke does) because he played in 4 games.

I'd guess the Leafs think they're both NHLers. Whether they're ready or not is another matter. I could easily see both, Sandin less so, going back for more development. Robertson's a tough one, as he's clearly figured out junior and can't play in the AHL or some comparable Euro league.

Robertson looked good with electric flashes in the offensive zone against columbus, but looked very timid/lost/scared when he was in his own end.

I think he's kind of a no-brainer, really.

The Leafs need cheap players on the NHL roster who can contribute. And Robertson is too good for the OHL under normal circumstances, let alone whatever the state of Canadian junior hockey is going to be trying to play during a pandemic.

If he gets caved in, it's a big issue, to my mind. The problem with rushing young players, besides health risks, is killing their confidence. Robertson was pretty good against the BJs fourth liners but still underwater on the possession/sc stats.

you have to base that on maturity, makeup, etc.

robertson's shot should keep him reasonably productive, unless he's so overmatched defensively that he can't be trusted in a top 9 role.

but even then, he does seem to have drive and compete level and guys like that don't usually wilt.
