Updates and Rumours from around the League

NJ owner Jeff Vanderbeek, NJ GM Lou Lamoriello and Ilya Kovalchuk's agent Jay Grossman met with NHL execs at league's NY office today. Hmmm?

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

According to Dobber's daily ramblings:

Russian reporter Pavel Lysenkov is saying that Ilya Kovalchuk will sign a contract with New Jersey by tomorrow. Look for the Devils to do some scrambling, that would mean moving some well-known Devils to new cities.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

If this means NJ is looking to move a top 6 forward.. I know who's in the market for one!

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Not really because they would have to pay it out right...

so if there is 7 million left on Fingers deal, the leafs would pay 7 million up front, say thanks and then he walks
Which is essentially a massive get-out-of-jail free card.

Wasn't Elias a big supporter of trading for Kaberle? He might end up playing with his Czech-mate after all :)

I don't rule out NJ trading Langenbrunner or Elias ... just not for cheap.

They're going to be severely hamstrung as far as the ability to take contracts back are concerned.

They currently have 3.7 million in cap space with 2 goalies, 7 defenders, and 11 forwards accounted for. Assuming that Josefson or Tedenby & Kovalchuk signs for something in the vicinity of 8 million, they'd be looking at being roughly 5.2 million over the cap (and that included their bonus cushion)

They're looking at moving Elias for a cheap body + futures, or they're looking at multiple moves just to be able to fill in their roster.

The next question is, do you want to pay Elias 6 million for the next 3 years? This is what his current 3 yr split looks like:

70GP 23G 37A 60PTS

and just to piss everyone off, here is a mystery player's 3 yr splits

78GP 26G 35A 61PTS

I'll take Nik Antropov for 500, Alex?

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Elias has been very good over the last 2 seasons. He played around an 80ish pt pace in 09 and a 70ish pt pace last year.

Last 2 yrs: 135 gms, 50 gls, 126 pts (82 gms, 31 gls, 77 pts)

I'd take him for the next few years.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

I don't know if you want to be paying a 36 yr old Elias 6 million....He's 34 years old and signed for 3 more seasons. He finishes this contract as a 37 yr old, and had both a fairly serious groin issue last year, as well as a concussion that the Devils did their best to hide.

Giving up anything good, young, and cheap for that is a mistake imo
