Updates and Rumours from around the League

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Our payroll isn't an issue. It hasn't been an issue since Melnyk took ownership of the team and doesn't appear to be one going forward.

The Sens can do whatever they want. Melnyk's investment in the team and arena is making money. He doesn't care which balance sheet reflects that.

He's also shown himself to be willing to pony up dollars.

You're making up an argument founded on absolutely nothing.

It's founded on the fact that a team that is middle of the pack in revenues probably won't want to have the #1 or #2 payroll in the league, which adding 7 million in payroll would put you.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Trade Fisher? Waive Ruutu and Kelly?

There are lots of ways to easily clear off under 4 million dollars.

Sigh.

Again, it's not the cap hit, it's the real dollars. Melnyk is going to now pay multiple guys to play in the minors and also big bucks to Savard for 3 of the next 7 years?

Better start booking a lot more concerts. Maybe Carrie can cut them a deal.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Then he'll try and make trades. Goodness guys.

Does it bother you that much that Melnyk has been more willing to put money into the team than MLSE with the Leafs?

The Sens aren't being run by Bryden anymore, deal with it.

We're taking about a hypothetical scenario in which a team that sits middle of the pack in revenues is going to spend the most money in the league on payroll. It's exactly what I said - they'd want to shed salary and not take back any in return, which seems to be pretty hard these days. They're not going to have one of the highest payrolls in the league, that'd be stupid.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

He may just choose to do it for one season.

Afterall, in one year Kovalev comes off the books.

But you are ruling it out as if it's a mathematical impossibility.

:lol Is this like Dumb and Dumber? "So you're telling me there's a chance?"

Sure, it's possible. They'd have to do way more juggling around to do it than the Leafs would, that's for damn sure.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

No way that contract should be allowed. It is another veiled attempt at following the CBA but it is another attempt at circumvention. The last two years of that contract will obviously never be played.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

but he IS forfeiting $10 mil if he doesn't play. that's not chump change.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

It's a bogus contract... yet again.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

There is definitely the appearance of incentive for Kovy to play. Its a pretty smart response to the ruling.

I don't think the NHL bites though. Would seem silly to after their big win.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

If they don't get Kovalchuk, does he then go back to the Kings? Or does he modify his term demands and start getting more teams in on this?
