OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

His rebuild of the roster is impressive enough, but it's the compilation of young talent in the lower minor leagues that will give us a better sense of just how good a GM he's been in a couple of years. Right now it looks very impressive, but some of these guys will have to pan out.

I'm not interested in giving up Gose or Snider in a Garza package. Really I don't want to give up on Drabek either, but obviously something good will have to go the other way to get him, quite possibly one of Drabek or Alvarez. Unless they really like a couple of the younger guys. The Cubs need good pitching prospects, and we've got a stockpile. Really hard to gauge exactly what they are asking for.

Thank goodness we stayed far away from Beltran. That contract is absurd.

See, I thought the Beltran contract was pretty good. As was pointed out on the previous page, he was 11th in OPS+ last season, and only signed for 2 years at a very reasonable number for elite production. Here's a quick comparison....

2011

Beltran - 152 OPS+ (13 x 2)
Fielder - 164 OPS+ (22 x 8 ?????)
Pujols - 150 OPS+ (25.4 x 10)

Beltran has obvious injury concerns, and really would be better value in the AL because you can DH him fairly regularly. But he's still a passable CF'er (which carries some extra value in itself), and as long as he's healthy, will rake a level just below the really big dogs, but still at an elite level in it's own right. If he repeats his performance from this past season, (4.4 war), he's nearly returned the value of a 26 million dollar contract, in the first year alone. It's pretty much a guarantee that if he's healthy, he's going to provide a 4.5 WAR bat or better.

He's only a small step down from Prince, but he's going to cost 10 million less, for a lot less overall risk (as has been mentioned, the body type progression doesn't favour the buyer on Prince's contract if it's longer than 4-5 years at all)

Frankly, Beltran could pretty easily replace Pujols' production from this past season....if Berkman continues to hold of Father Time, the Cards might not miss a beat.

Yeah I thought the Beltran contract was ok, given his numbers. But his age is a little concerning. Players in their mid-thirties can drop off.

I was actually really happy the jays didnt get Beltran. I know he had a good year last year but injury prone players scare me.

That's a great contract, really. I would have definitely taken Beltran for that price. No question.

Thing is, I doubt that contract would have enticed him to play for the non-playoff Jays. Going to the Cards is obviously a bit more attractive.

Yup..

We woudlve needed a 3rd year and more cash.

He also aledgedly wanted little part in DH'ing or turf

You guys wanted to pay Beltran more than $13 million a year for 3 years? I am admittedly not a big fan of the player, but there's no way I go that high.

The Scout message boards are still around?

My God that place was absolute garbage. I recall when their ******* corporate administrators banned 80 percent of the Jays forum, including guys who had posted their for years without so much as an infraction to their names. Total douchebags.

Yeah - It's around. It's very small like this one. Only has about 20-30 regular posters.

It's really not that bad anymore. Like any forum it has a few bad posters that ruin it for the other people.

I'll never forgive them for what they did to the long-time posters. It was completely unconscionable on the part of the administrators to destroy a community like that.

what was the place that got hijacked by that guy that just kept putting pictures of Hans Gruber everywhere??
