GDT - Leafs @ Ducks | 10:00PM EST - Randy's return to the Duck Pond

Would be too bad to see Brennan get a shot somewhere else next year without ever giving him a look.

EDIT: Nevermind he is an RFA.

Yep. After the season he's had in the AHL, I don't think there's any way Nonis doesn't qualify him and bring him back for a shot at a roster spot in camp next year.

Yet another reason why Franson is likely a goner.

Economically you are dead on. Better to get someone young and cheap. This Ranger when you break down his skill set, has a really nice package of size, skating, shot and when he is turned on, good to very good defence. Just a huge addition at the right time. And Gardiner, well, he has been very similar to last year, spotty with glimses of extreme magic, if this guy turns it on around playoff time he can be a significant factor. Still has a package that not many ever have had. Just seems to have a bit of a head problem.

ranger made two really brutal blunders with the puck in the second half of the third but otherwise played a great game.

as for brennan, he's in a tough spot because of the team's depth on the blueline. he also doesn't really bring the sort of skillset they need.

but, he is having a pretty spectacular year.

Yeah, Brennan might not bring anything they need, and he might not even be an NHLer, but it would be a shame to not get a look at him with how well he is playing.

Franson + Reimer + Prospects could get us a really nice player in the summer.

Guys like kesler, edler, hamhuis, hamonic, myers, eberle, campbell, staal, weber, could be available.

It would be highly amusing if the Vancouver goaltending saga ended with Vancouver having to cough up a valuable piece to get Reimer+Franson+whatever from us this summer.

If Weber is even within the realm of possibility, that is EXACTLY what we're missing.

And then sign a guy like Vanek, dump a couple of contracts, and go with youth on the bottom 6 and we are in big time business.

Yeah, Franson's been terrible this year, no doubt.

Even if he does turn it around at this point, it may be too late to keep him in a Leaf uniform past this year. I doubt Nonis will see much point in going through another difficult contract negotiation with him when he's got Rielly, Gardiner and Phaneuf as his other puck-movers already on the roster, and guys like Matt Finn, Stuart Percy and TJ Brennan in the system.

There must be something up with Brennan that he's been that spectacular and never gotten a shot at his age. I can't believe he would be the real deal. And Percy has been pretty disappointing and is looking more like a lower pairing guy. Finn seems like he could be something special, but that too, we don't know until we see it happen.

So I wouldn't say our defensive depth is that great, if I'm going to be realistic about it.

And I thought Franson played an awesome game last night. Best game of the year. He was smart, quick with his decisions, physical. Was surprised and impressed.

Ranger is also strangely good the last little bit. Not sure what's going on there. I still personally prefer to see just 6 dmen with 3 set pairs play, but it's tough to argue with the defensive results lately. Maybe taking a load off of Rielly and Gardiner is a good thing as they settle into the league.

Percy is having a fantastic rookie season and has clearly established that he has top four potential.

Yeah, I hope you're not using Percy's offensive numbers to evaluate him, LoF.

He's more of a Carl Gunnarsson type. Solid, reliable puck-mover, but he's never going to put up huge offensive numbers.

Pretty much, yeah. I thought he was supposed to be more of an all around guy with good offense. I'm disappointed by the numbers.

But it's funny you used Gunnar as a comparable. I was actually going to say that based on the numbers, maybe that was Percy's upside.

Ranked as our 10th best prospect by THN, lower than Tyler Biggs. Someone will have to explain that one to me.

Rankings mean nothing. I believe they intentionally rank all things Leaf lower just to get views, hits, and reactions from the most active hockey fan base on the planet.

How does Collberg rank over Johnson when the latter's numbers were a country mile better than the former's in the same league at the same age? Just stupid.

percy's numbers are fine. he's on pace for a 30 point rookie season as a 20 year old, playing second pp minutes because of Brennan's ridiculous year. He plays the tough D matchups, and his ice time (with Granberg) has ticked upwards as the year has progressed.

And then give up 7 third period goals after being up 3-0 on the Islanders. Ouch.
And in the post game interview when asked why he doesn't pull Lack and put markstrome in, Tortz said "Markstrome is no where near NHL ready right now. There's no way I am putting him in a game."

Then why is he sitting on the frigging bench????!!!!
