OT: NBA Playoffs - Around the League

Pat Riley's da man.

Riley is a pimp. As much as I dislike how he built his team, that's the exact right way to calm the waters. I revel in seeing them lose, but all great teams lose, Riley is bang on.

Only point I took a little bit of umbrage with is about Jordan's Bulls. From the time when Jordan-Pippen became a thing (88-89 was Pippen's first year as a starter), the bulls won 6 of 8 titles (6 of 9 if you want to count when came out of retirement and was clearly rusty as **** by Jordan standards)

Other than that, pretty spot on.

I took that presser as more of a message to LeBron than anything. Sure he talks about the media and fans etc but he's basically telling LeBron to take the week to 10 days and not be hasty etc. I think LeBron was royally pissed. Rash decisions need not be made.

Why wouldn't he? The Raps made great strides and are a team on the rise. Where's he going to go to have better? Sure the allure of South Beach and LeBron (if he stays) are great but I really believe the Heat will target Isaiah first. Lowry would be a pretty good consolation prize though.

This is what I've been telling you for a few months now man. Shit is in place for Bron to walk, with both Wade & Bosh being pretty difficult to move (and yeah, not a chance either is opting out unless Riley pulls the rumoured Carmelo rabbit out of his hat)

In the new financial environment, Bosh isn't opting out of shit. He'd be looking at a 9 million dollar a year haircut.

If I had to guess, I suspect all three opt out, take a pay cut, and build a superior team around themselves.

...if all three opt out, and free up cash for management, they could do some very interesting things, with or without Carmelo.

To me that's the most likely scenario...because both Bosh & Wade are as aware as anyone, that their best chance at improving/cementing their legacies, is through continuing their partnership with Lebron and chasing more titles....so for my money, they'll all opt-out, and set up their new deals to help them finish what they started.

@WindhorstESPN: Chris Bosh plans to opt out of contract, source tells ESPN. Dwyane Wade & Udonis Haslem also out per reports. Heat have record 55M cap space

I suspect Haslem will now take a longer deal than he had previously, to resign for similar/slightly more guaranteed money overall, but less per year....to give the Heat even more flexibility to sign guys.

Guy has been the ultimate team guy throughout this whole thing, constantly leaving money on the table to help the Heat.....would damn near guarantee he gets the ultimate Cush job with this franchise when it's all said and done, as a thank you.

10 mil to Lowry, Wade, Melo, Lebron, Bosh. 5 mil to fill out the bench.

Do they also get the MLE? and the other exception as well?

Sad to say, if Lowry doesn't resign with us this offseason, we are pretty much f*cked.

Can't really blame Lowry if he has Lebron whispering in his ear.

Names?

Isn't Lowry the top of the PG group?

I know Eric Bledsoe is out there, but i've read that Phoenix will match any contract offer. Isiah Thomas? Kinda small?

My guess is 12-16 mill per for Bron, Wade, Bosh...with the rest going to fill out the squad. They'll each take paycuts, but as a requisite to do that, I fully expect them to get Micky Erison to agree to pay out of pocket as well and go into the luxury/repeater tax, so I think they have more than the $55 mill being reported, to work with.

I get a kick out of how when Lebron & co. take paycuts everyone and their mother think it's the worst thing in the world, a travesty and of course "gay"......but when Duncan, Manu, and Parker do it? "Now THAT's a commitment to winning", "THE ultimate team sacrifice!!!", "The epitome of Class!"

The overarching media/fan narratives are the complete polar opposites for a group of guys making similar sacrifices for the exact same reasons (except of course Darth James, is making the biggest sacrifices of any of them.). They'll go to the ends of the earth to point out why one is evil incarnate, and the other is the "right way" to do it. heh.

Wojnarowski, reporting James wants a max contract (5 x $130m) or close to it.

That's surprising, as it would seemingly indicate Bosh & Wade have agreed to take big paycuts so that both Lebron can (deservedly) get paid more, and they can improve the team around them. Would have bet good money they would all take similarly valued deals to one another again....as part of the agreement for Bosh/Wade to leave money on the table due to opting out.
