OT: Movies/TV Shows

I actually loved BTAS. I think it was an incredible portrayal of the characters, with excellent storytelling, especially during the latter years of its run. The only negative reference is to the fact that it's 20 years old already, and so seeing animation that looks so dated does make one feel like they cheaped out a bit in producing this film. That's the only knock.

...and maybe because I didn't watch BTAS, that's why I enjoy Timm's style more than others. I definitely have a soft spot for that more retro look from time to time, and am a big fan of Darwyn Cooke's stuff for instance, which is very much in the same vein. (his IDW run of "Richard Starks: Parker" is obscenely good)

I read the Morrison run while he was on the book, and you're right, it was weird, but after getting used to it a bit, it was very good. I think you may be a little less mainstream than me. For instance, I really enjoyed the Winnick run, but even moreso, I think Snyder currently has hit it out of the park. That said, Jim Gordon can't lose the suit fast enough for my taste. Not sure I like the aftermath of the great Endgame story.

I'm with you on Snyder & Capullo, they're absolutely killing it.

I lag a little behind on these runs though as I collect Absolute & Omnibus editions so outside of a few books (Saga, Fade Out, mainly Image titles) I don't read a ton of floppies month to month. That's what took me so long to get around to Morrisons run, wanted to own it in the oversized format. Even Snyder's run I read in TPB, and with how good the first year was, I'm kinda of tempted to wait for the rest of it to get the Absolute treatment. Tough to beat having that kind of artwork on massive oversized paper stock.

It sounds like maybe you're still buying the physical copies from the store?

I was pretty opposed to anything but, until time became an issue and storage became a major problem. Now I just buy through Comixology, and it's so, so much better. Especially for a lunatic like me who obsesses over the condition of the books.

I like hardcopies, but they don't have to be originals...though I have lots of those...I like anthologies so I can have them all together neatly, preferably in hardback.

I just finished watching "SuperMensch" the doc by mike myers about the manager of Alice Cooper and a slew of others. Truly an amazing story. It's on the US Netflix right now.

So the other day I had some time to kill so I loaded Bojack Horseman on netflix. I binged the first half of season one, and I am very impressed with it. The writing is quite witty and the story is actually quite compelling. For a series about an anthropomorphized horse, it's really well done.

Fear the Walking Dead starts tonight. Anyone else excited for it?

IF anyone has read World War Z (great book by the way) I think this series is going to be a lot like the Great Panic part of that book. Batshit craziness.

Here are the first three minutes if anyone is interested.

I bailed on 'Walking Dead' as I decided I'd rather read Kirkmans comic series fresh one day.......but think I may jump on board for 'Fear The Walking Dead' though.

While there are similarities, there are more than enough differences, that each tells their own story, and each can be thoroughly enjoyable.

Straight out of Compton was solid, though the movie glosses over and rushes a lot of plot points that made me feel like it would have made a ****ing epic HBO series instead of just a good movie.

Ray Donovan has been great this season, best of 3 seasons.

Don't jump in now though - best to start from the beginning.

The scene in the church was amazing! Heavy stuff.

Assuming you mean, Fear TWD.

Loved that bit where the step-father went in to explore. We know what is happening, they don't, so I was expecting a walker to jump out at every turn.

Also, nice touch with the freak out in the hospital when the old man died, so obviously word is spreading. It will be interesting to see the anarchy happen.

No he meant Ray Donovan.

Was Fear the Walking Dead good?

It was solid. Not a tonne of action yet, but you know it is coming, first episodes rarely do. Character driven, but some interesting scenes, and some creepy ones as well. Looking forward to more, way more. I want to see civilization crumble.
