So, who else thinks that Sparks may be a legit prospect at this point?

His numbers at every level have been very strong. Ideally you'd like to see what sort of a performance he would provide in the AHL over a larger sample size, but thus far he's had his feet held to the flames and been steady (Jets game excluded).

Have to give him credit for holding the fort as well as he has.

If he keeps playing like this...

It's hard to tell with goalies though. We've seen it before with Reimer. We've seen it before with Bernier. We've seen it before with the Monster. It takes years to really know what you have in a goalie. Especially with a guy with such a small sample size.

To be fair---I don't think saying that he "might be a legit prospect" is trying to start a "hype train".

At this point though, I do think it's fair to say he's overtaken Antoine Bibeau as the top goalie prospect in the organization (out of our large pool of two goaltending prospects total). And that, thus far, he at least hasn't fallen over any of the hurdles we've thrown in front of him and proven with a great degree of certainty that he has no NHL potential (which a guy like Justin Pogge did pretty quickly after turning pro).

This rest of this year should tell us a great deal more about his chances of winning an NHL job in the near future. I'm hoping they'll leave him down in the AHL for the majority of the rest of this season, give him a starter's workload and see whether he can handle it without breaking down physically or having any big drop-offs in his level of play.

Sparks is one ugly, untalented goalie.. But of course he's a legit prospect. I doubt he'll ever be elite or some shit, but he has turned his career around nicely.

A bunch of the new goaltending analytics suggests that you need 4 yrs (~150 appearances worth of shots) for 5 on 5 SV% to stabilize, and overall considers goaltender scouting to be just barely on this side of voodoo.
