Again, 2 things.
1. I don't believe that deal would have happened.
2. I don't believe Reimer can win us the cup even if it did happen.
So what's the point?
Well given the reports are Bergevin is desperately trying to make a deal, it seems your belief he is doing this as some part of a master plan is not correct

Reimer would have been a good pickup to go for in November. I mean, even if we won say 4 games in net with him that we ended up losing, then that would have put us tied with TB right now.
And no, Reimer is not bringing us to the cup, but the theory is that he could at least have kept us in the playoff hunt, so that when Price returns in Feb/March, he takes us the rest of the way. We would have used Reimer as a stop-gap while Price is down. I mean, yeah, if Price never returned, then we waste the assets that we dealt for him, but with a healthy Price you never know how we do in the playoffs.

Know what we do now, after seeing the video of price and his leg , I'm beyond happy that MB didn't do anything.
It's all academic now, let's just focus on the tank at hand.
If he was that desperate to make a deal then he would've already made one, so he doesn't seem too desperate to me.
