The 2017-2018 Training Camp / Pre-Season Thread

Looks like Fehr is between Martin & Brown, and Borgman is paired with Carrick at practice.

So, those are perhaps the winners of the 4th line C & 3rd pair LHD spots?

Sure sounds like Leafs will carry 14 forwards to start season. Sense is Fehr, Leivo and Moore all staying.

Babcock calls Hyman "the best forechecker in hockey."

Babs starting to get a little manic in his defense of Zaccheus.

Babcock doesn't exactly know how fourth line C will be filled at moment, but decided Aaltonen needed a little time. Wanted a vet to start

Lou Lamoriello will meet with Roman Polak today. No contract offer from #leafs now, but he might stick around as a practice player.

Lamoriello says Moore, Fehr and Leivo are staying so Leafs will carry 14 forwards. Leaves one D to be cut tomorrow.

Lamoriello said Liljegren will practice with the #Marlies until they make final decision on Sweden vs. AHL for him

There could still be a #leafs roster surprise. Mike Babcock says Andreas Borgman and Calle Rosén could both stick around for the opener.

yeah mariincin's a goner.

I don't know why they keep Marincin hanging around. He's obviously not good enough to make the team
I think it actually does make sense to keep him around. He'll be around as a 7th defenseman that'll fill in at practices, and be on-hand in case one of the top-6 isn't ready to go for a game, and you don't have enough time to recall someone from the Marlies. Besides those duties, he'll basically be a full-time resident of the press box, like Frankie Corrado.

That's not a role you want young, actual prospects like Borgman, Rosen or Dermott filling. They need to play. And if a spot opens up in the top-6 due to poor performance or injury, any one of those guys can be recalled at any time, and leap-frog past Marincin into the top-6.

Borgman's pairing with Carrick might also indicate he's got the inside track on Wednesday 's starting assignment

Babcock also hinted that Connor Brown 's status on 4th line wouldn't be permanent as season progresses

Malcolm Subban on waivers. Claim him, Lou.
No thanks. Besides his name, and status as a former 1st round pick, I don't see the appeal.

He's been a mediocre AHL platoon goalie the past two years, which doesn't indicate to me that we should anoint him as our NHL backup and kick McElhinney (who's been good for us) to the curb.

He's also basically the same age as Garret Sparks, with significantly worse AHL numbers the past two years.

Purely an eye test thing for me here, Subban is athletic as **** and a few tweaks turns him into a NHL goalie. Sparks is a fumble****ing mess every time I've watched him against NHL shooters.

Never again insult the tank Commander. He deserves a SC ring if we win one.
