The 2017-2018 Training Camp / Pre-Season Thread

Purely an eye test thing for me here, Subban is athletic as **** and a few tweaks turns him into a NHL goalie. Sparks is a fumble****ing mess every time I've watched him against NHL shooters.
Problem is, if you claim him on waivers, those tweaks & growing pains have to happen at the NHL level. Which isn't an exciting prospect, considering all the points & easier playoff seeding thrown away by our 1st half backups last year.

And your eye-test aside, he's put up pretty mediocre AHL numbers the last two seasons, and has been the equivalent of a shooter tutor in his two brief NHL appearances.

The problem with Subban is if you pick him up on waivers he is your backup, and he has 2 career NHL starts with a 5+ GAA and like .700 save%.

He could be a decent goalie someday like Markstrom, but at this point he is a pretty huge downgrade on McElRoy.

Which is probably why BOS is trying to sneak him through the waiver wire at this point ... with so many ppl going through waiver at this point, all NHL goalies (mostly) healthy, they figure nobody would pick him up and carry 3 goalies.

And looking at his stats, he's not worth the risk (or the trouble)

And looking at BOS's roster, their backup is Khudobin, who's pretty meh. He's just another NHL backup goalie. He's 29, he's posted sub .910 in his last 3 NHL seasons, so I don't really see a lot of upsides in Khudobin.

Yet they still would rather risk losing Subban than giving him the backup job, tells you everything you need to know about what they see in him.

I don't know if Boston is the group I'd trust to evaluate young talent.

With that said, I agree that picking him up to replace McVezina is a bad idea. I just would prefer him to Sparks by a lot if that was a possibility.

Yeah, he'd be a nice add for the system but probably not as an NHL backup right now. Didn't cross my mind at first he'd have to replace McElhinney.

Strange. Hockeyscap has Borgman with the team and Rosen in the minors. I didn't see that reported anywhere.

Also, it's pretty amusing to see that Marleau will be making more than double what Matthews, Marner, and Nylander make this year - COMBINED!

I feel like it's 1999 and I'm in high school all over again. Counting down the hours till the Blue and White hit the ice.

Think that gives us about $6 mill to play with this year. Could be interesting if we are clear contenders at the deadline. Maybe that is how you get JT to Toronto on a short term basis.

Nope. My hope is LA falls hard and the leafs make a deal from depth for drew doughty. That would be the most epic move since the gilmour trade.

I don't know but they're not getting Nylander with Doughty nearing the end of his deal while publically bitching about the Kings direction.
