OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

surprised to read only 1.3% of Covid hospital cases were smokers
Not sure where you got that data but a lot of these studies coming out should be taken with a grain of salt. They're being rush published using tiny samples and with a lack of peer reviews. Considering as much as 20% of the planet smokes and probably a higher percentage for the most commonly hospitalized age groups, I'm highly skeptical of that data.

Just saying this so people around here don't start smoking because it adds a layer of protection for you or some stupid shit. There's a lot of misinformation flying around from these half assed studies being published and people not really knowing how to interpret them. When I went to pick up my beautiful beer from the Beer Store the other day, I was in there for about 2 minutes and I heard like 6 pieces of misinformation coming from the staff/customers. For example, the dude behind the counter was wearing a welders mask and screaming at a customer for wearing an actual mask, saying it doesn't work and the virus will just get "trapped" in her mask. I had to step in for that one.

I think most data is horse shit to begin with

The numbers are probably 5x higher for deaths and infected

Places like Brazil , Russia or not a peep out of Shanghai are bogus

I merged this thread with the Things to not be worried about...hoping that it can help a bit in keeping information more manageable. If anyone has a strong objection, I am all ears....

Are we still allowed to mock Altair in the merged thread? If so, I'm good with it.

Pressure keeps mounting in Sweden...curious how long they will stay the course...

The worst bit here is that they're going to feel the same economic pain as everyone else, the predictably higher death count will provide no economic utility in the long run. GDP projections keep getting worse after the rosy 4-6% initial projections, unemployment looks a hell of a lot like everywhere else. But you can still go to the pub for a beer so Sweden wins I guess.

Fwiw, the Province reported 483 new cases today and 43 fatalities. Bringing our totals up to 7953 cases (4051 active, 3568 recovered) and 334 fatalities
