GDT #2 - AUG 4, 4pm, SN - Mustish Win

If they're going to call "tapping", and I would prefer they do, then that call is fine. But only if they're going to call it all the time.

But they don't. And it came right after they called us for tripping because a BJ toe-picked.

The two consecutive penalties near the end of the game were the two weakest calls of the game. Definitely reeked of the officials trying to "even it up". Apparently at the time the Muzzin injury occurred Torts was screaming at the officials because he thought Muzzin was faking it.

obviously if one team destroys the other at even strength they can't do as much to manage the outcome. but the purpose of penalties and reffing isn't to enforce the rulebook anymore. That is why everyone has been baffled with why calls appear to be so inconsistent.

i don’t think they call that if Dubois doesn’t lose the puck.
Ya I would agree with that. And like I said, I'm on board with the call. I want them to call that slash, those are the types of things that prevent skilled players from making plays that everybody tunes in for. I just want them to call it all the time.

Its more the non-calling of cross checks that send guys off the ice on a stretcher that is the problem.

The game moves too fast to be right on all calls. They see a stick come up and player lose the puck or a stick around someone's feet and a player goes down they call it. Fair enough. But then let blatant stuff like Dubois go for seemingly no reason.

Cross checking is just seen as part of the game, especially in the playoffs. It actually seems slightly better this year. I remember watching the playoffs a few years ago, think it was one of the Pens cups. If someone was protecting the puck, especially along the boards, he was getting 4-5 cross checks to the back, no call.

Taking some hacks fighting for ice in front of the net or in the corners is one thing. At least everyone is prepared. Smoking a guy, who isn't expecting it, in open ice is just dangerous as we saw last night.

I don't have an issue with the Dubois cross-check not garnering a suspension. I think that was an infraction worthy of a two-minute minor penalty that ended up having an unfortunate freak result. But it's the combination of that going uncalled and Muzzin being out there in the first place because he was killing a phantom even-up call at the end of the game that makes it galling.

And leafman's probably right that if it's Kadri doing that to a Columbus player while still in a Leaf jersey, he probably gets five and a game and suspended for the balance of the series.

True, I'm just talking from about making hockey more fun to watch though. You don't have to battle by shoving your stick, with two hands on it, into the other guys back to battle in the corners. Force guys to hold the stick in one hand and push with their arms/gloves to battle, or make a play with their stick on the puck.

If you you can't cross check Matthews or McDavid in the corner, they're likely going to come out of the corner with the puck and make a skilled play, which is what everyone wants to see. And the guys who are strong enough to contain them without hacking or skilled enough to strip the puck with their stick are going to excel and become even more valuable on the defensive end. It's better for the game.

The Kapanen slash was a chintzy call but I can live with it.

What about the earlier matching roughing calls when Kapanen lightly shoved the guy in the neck and he returned back with a cross check to the fucking face?! How were those equal?

I’d forgotten about that one. Two minute penalty for getting punched in the face.

I seriously couldn't believe that one. When the whistle went and the penalty was called, I was like, nice, another PP. And then when they said Kapanen got one too, I figured it was something that I didn't see. And then they showed the replay of Kapanen's "infraction" and I fucking rolled my eyes. It's completely laughable. If Kapanen deserves a penalty for that touch, the game of hockey is effectively canceled.

Cant forget Chara dropping JT after the whistle and the refs let it slide because Chara is 6'9 and super human.

Anyone else and its a face wash
