Habs Acquire Joel Edmundson

Also he would be the only Stanley Cup winner on the team. I'm sure it counts for something in MB's mind.

For Dman:
- 7 goals is ranked tied 41st in the NHL (Subban had 7 goals).
- Over the last 3 seasons, his 16 goals ranks tied 69th.
- Over the last 3 seasons, his + 14 ranks tied 70th.

Expensive depth is a mistake when you could get a 1.5 mil player to do the same

actually at that price you’re getting borderline AHLers.

Edmundson brings a good physical element on the back end

I’m not a fan of Ouelette/Mete but they gave up zero goals vs Philly.

Our lack of offense is why we lost.

Signing guys like Jake Allen and Edmunson will help us make the playoffs, but won’t move the needle when we get there.

agreed, still lots of work to do

Edmundson's agent also represents Chiarot, Brook, Juulsen, and Fleury

I think you said it before , these are the guys you draft and develop then walk away when they want too much money

If it’s a Chariot deal , it’s ok

If we go 4+ years at 4+ , that’s a bad deal

Just stick Romanov with Petry

Bogosian , Shattenkirk , all working for cheap , plus tons of players looking for work this offseason

Budgets are slashed , why give up a 5th when you can chat later with him

I don’t think teams were salivating to sign him

This move all but guarantees an overpay , he was lucky to get 2 years as a UFA IMO

Does anyone recall why we let Yzerman hire Julien BriseBois away from us?

Anyway, Matthieu Darche is part of the Tampa management team — will probably be a candidate to replace Bergy at some point.

“Let”? He didn’t get the Habs GM job after Gauthier was fired and it’s bad form to block someone from getting a promotion elsewhere, I know you know that.

Obviously I didn’t mean we had the right to keep him against his will...Yzerman hired him as an assistant GM. The fact that we couldn’t top that with a position + money is sad. Now we have a guy who barely graduated high school calling all the shots.

Anyway, BriseBois was poached by Tampa two years before Gauthier was fired. I guess he was seen as too academic back then — always better to hire an ex player.

I recall hearing on Team990 at the time, it was Bob Gainey who recommended to Stevie Y that Brisebois would be very helpful as his capologist - Yzerman goal was to find an assistant that was well informed on the CBA, he had his right hand hockey man in Pat Verbeek (who followed him to Wings), and was about to poach Al Murray from Hockey Canada, to head up amateur scouting

Brisebois also mentioned Gainey was very helpful as a mentor and career guide. It was Gainey who moved him into hockey ops responsibility overseeing Hamilton (AHL) etc. from the lawyer/contract negotiations role Andre Savard brought him on as.
